Scheffau summary

Highlights from the 'World’s Best Ski Resort'-SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental - Scheffau (Ski resort test 06/07 by topresorts.de) Season Opening on 1.12.2007. The 91 cable cars and lifts in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental - Scheffau will enter the new 2007/2008 season with 180 km of slopes assured of snow – at least 100 km of which can be covered with snow in 3 days and if there is also real snowfall by December, then SkiWelts' excellent reputation as Austria’s largest ski resort, with over 250 km of interconnected slopes will be completely justified. The Best of SkiWelt circuits (in addition to the vast number of slopes); there are 3 dream circuits – the Kaiser, Salve and Westendorf circuits, which spectacularly lead skiers and snowboarders to the most beautiful spots in SkiWelt - Scheffau. With these, depending on your fitness and ability, up to 4,000 m altitude difference can be descended. 'Totally Nocturnal'; the tireless can also carve around at night in Brixen, Ellmau and Söll thanks to floodlighting. The expansion of the night-time skiing, offered by 3 further runs in Höchsöll, is new this winter. Furthermore, the illuminated toboggan run is now equipped with a snow-making system there. The popular Ladies’ Ski Day, the pleasure of winter sports for women at children’s prices, has already become a tradition at SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental. In 2008 the Ladies’ Ski Day will again be on offer every Wednesday as of 9.1.2008. 'Austria’s Lowest-Priced Ski Network'; everyone was surprised by this last season as well: SkiWelt is not only Austria’s largest interconnected ski resort; of all of the comparable large-capacity regions, lift tickets are offered at the lowest prices here. As always, children up to the age of 5, who are accompanied by an adult, ride for free. 'The much frequented Ski Bunny Club'; The Ski Bunny forum has been very well received for years, enabling like-minded people to search for their ideal skiing or snowboarding companions on the internet at www.skiwelt.at beforehand. However, new friends can identify one another quickly on the slopes or in the traditional mountain lodges too by their Ski Bunny stickers. Then you will have twice as much fun in the snow. Visitor Reviews of Scheffau

Pepperell Mark from UNITED KINGDOM writes:

Having just returned from spending xmas in Sceffau, I can talk about several aspects of the vilage.

first the skiing,
we have a good dump of snow just before we got there and more during our stay so it was perfect, what impressed me most was the way that they prepared the pistes overnight, so that whatever we had, sun, or snow, it was always in top class condition in the morning.they also kept certain runs loose for the powder nuts and only pisted them after they ahd had a days fun.
I noticed that they also seemed deliberatly to hold certain lifts/runs closed, so that even after hard sking, there were always new fresh runs being opened, seems like a good idea
as only an internediate skier, I felt that there was more than enough to keep me going for two weeks if I had the money to keep my family out there!
I am not too sure whther the black aces would have managed to stay entertained though for more than a week if that!

They have a kindergarten ski centre right at the very top where the advantages are two fold, one it is right at the top of the gondola and by the resteraunt so as you finish skieing etc you can just slide by and grab 'em, and the other advantage is that being at the top there is almost guaranteed snow, my two girsls were froloicking in two foot of powder in safe conditions with excellent attendents and they kept their skis on almost all the time, invaluable if they are to take proper ski lessons next time

the ski shop in the village has several English guys and an Aussie, so they could not be more UK friendly and v efficient with fitting, although it really is a good idea to try and get there Sat afternoon to get fitted out as it took over an hour and a half to get all sorted on Sunday morning!!

the village in general? lovley people with strange opening times!! check out the times of opening, and the Spar shop has the cheapest booze anywhere in Austria I think, especially if you want to bring back some special liquers, they are less than half the price of the gift shop!

The Hotel Alpin, where we stayed, served the best food I have ever eaten in Austria and as much and more than you could ever eat, Say hello to Rebecca and/or Lucia, great girls who served us well all week

Underneath the hotel, (the Alpin is in two sites so I am talking about the one behind the ski shop) is the best kept secret in the valley, they have an amazing health centre with several steam rooms, saunas, massages and solariams etc not to metion a nice pool.

if you want livley night life go to Soll or even Ellmeau, but if you have a family and enjoy quitet drinking in good company where the kids can be stowed away in a terrific children's room then Scheffeau is spot on

we will return next year, but I am led to believe that we were lucky to have so much snow at xmas, probably better bet in early Feb.

anyway enjoy the trip

anything else I can advise on I will be happy to, especially regarding the two main tour companies there, Crystal and Esprite. One was excellent the other>>>>> well I do not want any libal charges!!

REAL BIG – SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental

SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental is Austria’s largest interconnected ski area and is one of the most varied winter sports areas in the Alps, with the greatest certainty of snow. One award after another is proof that here 279 km of ski runs, over 90 modern lifts and more than 70 refreshment stops make for winter fun which is simply “world class”. With 13 km of night skiing slopes and 7.5 km of floodlit toboggan runs day becomes night to let night-time thrill seekers sweep down perfect slopes and toboggan runs across the sea of lights in the valley. Whether with family, as a couple, with friends, alone or in a group: at SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental you’ll always get your money’s worth and find an offer to suit everyone!

It’s white as far as the eye can see when it comes to snow conditions here too: SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental is particularly blessed with natural snow. In addition, 210 km of the 279 km of slopes can be completely covered with manmade snow. This is guaranteed by more than 1,000 snow machines in the ski area. By the way: only pure drinking water may be used for snowmaking in Tyrol.

From treeless summit slopes for carvers, to richly varied slopes for experts and family slopes bathed in sunshine, to the fantastic valley descents which go on and on, all the slopes are in perfect condition. Spectacular views and mountains of snow are guaranteed.

SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental is offering you the opportunity to access your personal ''skiline'' by entering at the end of your day’s skiing your ski pass number on the internet at www.skiwelt.at. The ''skiline'' gives a timed altitude profile of the route you chose in the ski resort. It contains an accurate list of the lifts you used, the total metres you climbed and an estimate of how many kilometres you covered on the descent.

Notwithstanding all the superlatives, which SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental has already earned, it is the cosy atmosphere, warm hospitality and Tyrolean charm which set the tone. More than 70 of Austria’s loveliest ski huts and mountain restaurants, sun terraces and snow bars invite you to call in for a rest and a bite to eat. From a “statistical point of view” you have an opportunity to do so every 3.5 km!
