Visitor Reviews of San-Isidro
Pancho from SPAIN writes:
San-Isidro is packed with beginners during the weekends but it is actually a better resort for intermediate-advanced skiers or boarders.
It gets too crowded at the weekends with long queues at the bases.
Never had a good snow park and that's a pity.
The past seasons had mostly the same structure; climate change to blame? Problems included a late start, with no or very few snow falls during December and January. Some big snowfalls even late in the season (April) but usually the northern winds rapidly change to milder, western ones and that brings rain up to 1850m right away. Thus, if you want good snow you have to be there just in time because it does not last long (we are in Atlantic Spain and not at a very high altitude...)
The same mountain hosts Fuentes de Invierno, a neighbouring resort that you can actually access with a little bit of cruising and rowing off the slopes to the east of San-Isidro. Stupidity is abundant in my region though, and the two resorts, due to political or bureaucratic reasons are not linked - which would make this mountain a much better ski destination... it's really a shame.
This season has started early and by early Dec 08 there's a good snow pack. But rains are coming back for the next few days...
By the way the capital of the region, León, 1h 30min driving from San-Isidro, hosts amazing nightlife and historical heritage. Really worth the small road trip down the valleys.
Cheers,
