Snowfall warning for North Island New Zealand Issued 24 July at 10am local time. A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Pra Loup, in France (in the Alps du Sud region), is a large resort with 33 lifts (7 chair lifts, 23 surface lifts) that offers skiers an incredible 1100 metres (3609 feet) of vertical descent. It is part of the Espace Lumière ski area. Pra Loup has 53 pistes. Pra Loup is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. There are 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) of cross country ski trails at Pra Loup. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. A small proportion of the pistes at Pra Loup are covered by snowmaking. The closest airport is at Toulouse but the transfer time is 2.5 hours. The nearest train station to Pra Loup is at Gap. I've been here in January 2004. It's a nice area, especially with the connection with Foux d'Allos. The connection is not optimal, but when you are at Foux, you can stay there for the whole day. There is enough to discover. Praloup is situated relatively low in the Southern Alpes, so you get a lot of sunshine and, most of the time, good snow conditions.
