Visitor Reviews of Nassfeld

mina from SLOVENIA writes:

Nassfeld is not much known outside Kaernten (Carinthia) which is strange being very extensive and well maintained – one of the best in Austria. They claim to have 110 km of runs and they didn’t make it up, you can’t ski them all in a day. Lately a lot of East Europeans are coming here for holidays but Slovenians have always been here for a day trip.

New installments are very good and future projects of connecting the resort with town Pontebba in Italy looks great. Scenery is very mountainous, runs very varied and they actually stretch over 5 valleys. So the views are always different and mostly great. The famous long Carnia run is actually very flat in the second quarter. Further down it winds nicely through the woods but you should enjoy it in the morning (If you can because to get back at the top of it you have to cross 2 valleys and use 4 lifts). In the afternoon everybody is using this run for descent and the very last part of it is very icy, being on low altitude and used for night skiing as well. The resort has to be a bit lucky with the snow, sometimes it’s just not cold enough and it rains instead of snows, but when they do have snow it’s superb.

There is no single resort centre. Some hotels are beside the road going on the Nassfeld pass. Some accommodation is on the Alm and the others in between. Since the new Millennium Express cable car starts from village in the valley Tropolach this is also the place currently developing. Our favorite eating and drinking during the day is on Tessdorfer Hoehe.
