Leysin Ski Resort Guide
Leysin in Switzerland (in the Lake Geneva Region region) is a large resort with 14 lifts (7 chair lifts, 4 surface lifts) that offers skiers an incredible 1050 metres (3445 feet) of vertical descent. Leysin has 29 pistes with a total length of 60 kilometers (38 miles). Leysin is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both expert and intermediates. There are 10 kilometers (6 miles) of cross country ski trails at Leysin. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. A small proportion of the pistes at Leysin are covered by snowmaking. The closest airport is at Geneva but the transfer time is 2 hours. The nearest train station to Leysin is at Aigle. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Leysin.

I've just returned from my sixteenth visit! Like some other reviewers I knew Leysin well in the Club Vagabond/Grenier days, and spent almost a year living there in the late 80s. Later visits did reveal it a little run down, and of course the end of the Vag and Grenier. But things seem to be picking up again now, with a lot of very nice new properties going up. I haven't tried Le Lynx yet, but the Yeti Bar retains some Club Vag atmosphere, and is currently moving location. La Lorraine is quite nice and reasonable by Swiss standards. Even the old 'Bottom Pub', now the Saloon is okay, though extremely quiet at the moment! But the views and air never change and I'm still planning to spend another year there in 5 or 6 years' time. And if the Dalai Lama thinks it's the centre of the spiritual universe it must have something other resorts don't have, and I reckon he's right!

The Nescafé Champs is the event not to be missed ! This competition brings together the best halfpipe riders in the field but nevertheless is a competition open to all. Qualifying events allow 10 competitors to join the word’s best in the final.
