Visited KG (Kranjska Gora) for Christmas 2009 with my family (me, wife, 7 and 4 year old). I have skied a lot but it was new to the rest of the family. We picked the resort due to reading reviews about it's excellent child facilities. We stopped in the Alpina Hotel which is located on the side of the piste and you can literally ski from and to the door. The holiday was booked through Crystal Ski and we picked this hotel due to the childrens club being located within.

We arrived in KG to fresh snow and the first night even more fell. The first few days were excellent and we were on piste all day. The kids went to ski school in the morning and then to the kids club organised by Crystal Ski. The hotel was clean and we got a good size family room with balcony looking out over the piste. Food was good: hot and loads of it. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The resort is compact and set at the bottom of the main slopes. There are numerous places to eat and the local supermarket is excellent. They do packed luches should you want to go off for the day. There are some local shops but all are small.

Ski lessons were good and tutors all spoke excellent English. Ski hire was well organised and equipment was of a excellent standard (we only hired skis though).

The pistes were well mantained and I would say the resort is excellent for beginners, intermediated and families but if you are a keen skier you will get bored of the same runs.

After the first 2 days the weather warmed and it began to rain. Firstly only light but by day 4 it was very heavy. The snow quickly started to melt and several lifts closed. We did manage to ski everyday but by the end only 2 smaller slopes remained open. I know this is not the resorts fault but as the session only opens at Christmas and the resort is not the highest, bare this in mind. For this year we have booked for a different resort which is much higher with a season that starts much earlier.

All in all an excellent resort.
