A deepening sub-tropical depression will quickly cross North Island on Saturday accompanied by a short period of gales and heavy rain. Expect easterly blizzard conditions to develop on Ruapehu as well as the ranges from the Tararuas to the Kawekas and perhaps even further north. A Cool SE flow with further bands of snow for mountains elsewhere. Many resorts have seen more than 20cm snow over the past 24hrs.

Kaunertal, in Austria (in the Tirol region), is a medium sized ski resort with 9 ski lifts (3 chair lifts, 6 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 935 metres (3069 feet) of vertical descent. Kaunertal has 618 acres of terrain over 16 pistes with a total length of 32 kilometers (20 miles). Kaunertal is only really suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. There are 25 kilometers (16 miles) of cross country ski trails at Kaunertal. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. A small proportion of the pistes at Kaunertal are covered by snow-making. The nearest airport is at Innsbruck and the nearest train station to Kaunertal is at Landeck.

The first big advantage of the Kaunertal is the ability to drive with your
car up to 2750m, directly to the glacier. The drive from Feichten (last town)
to the glacier is about 30km, beautiful landscapes and a huge lake included.

The ski resorts offers everything for a beginner and an expert. A great funpark
for snowboarder (beginner and experts), a halfpipe and obstacles. There are six surface lifts and two chair lifts (down to 2150m). So you are able to carve down
from 3162m to 2150m on one piece, great!

The next big thing is, that there are no masses of tourists and the tracks are
shaped nearly daily.
