Most family friendly place ever. Huge investment taken place here with some super fast---even heated--chairs and good bubbles. More for next season. Visit twice each winter both with and without family. It's fantastic.

My daughter and I stayed at the quite large, vital sport hotel for a week,in January. Lovely staff and good facilities, a short bus ride from the lift stations. We were the only snowboarders (and English) at hotel all week but no bad thing as we could practice our German. The pistes were in excellent condition thanks to new snow, good mix of skiers and boarders on the mountain, enjoying superb views from the top of the Hornspitz across the valley and from the Zwissalm towards the Dachstein glacier once the skies cleared. Tho you must check what time the last bus goes from the panorama jet gondola-we missed it at 4.50 and had to hike back (in the dark) for over an hour on roads with no footpath!!

Gosau (Gosau-Zwieselalm) was a great discovery for us! The valley is wide and spectacular with its own lake and several cable cars with no queuing. We noticed more snowboarders about, and langlauf too, so something for all. The kids skischool is great, but intermediates have the most fun. Gosau apartment was handy for lifts and relaxing after ski relaxation. A swim and a sauna helps the muscles recover. It's got to be good in summer too.

I have been to Gosau-Zwieselalm 3 times and we have booked to go again in February. It's the perfect place for the family. Mine has a 1 years old, 11 year old and 14 year old. There is something for everyone; Sumsiland for the kids in Gosau-Zwieselalm and nursery slopes in Russbach, Plenty for the whole family. Great bus service to all hotels and slopes. Services run very regularly throughout the day.
Very untouched by the English which is great.

I've been here many times, on the bus from Salzburg, which takes less than an hour - most handy! Good to combine the city with a cheap ski trip. Was pleasantly surprised by the Dachstein West ski area - it's well served, has interesting and varied terrain (although nothing seriously challenging and no off-piste to speak of), and is very pretty indeed. There is one lift which is ancient and seems to be the slowest in the world, but other than that, no complaints!

This is a smaller version of Scladming but with better views of the Dachstein. Great red runs to Russbach and Gosau and excellent lift system. No queues at any of the lift stations.
Not ideal for beginners but great for intermediates and plenty of runs to keep you going.
Also check out the smaller resort of Loser and Feurokegel
