Snow advisory updated Sunday 6th July at 9pm NZ time: Snow developing on Monday for the Victorian Alps and spreading steadily east. Initially snow will only settle above about 1700m but by Tuesday it will fall to resort levels. Moderate to heavy snowfalls then continuing for several more days. Snow showers in New Zealand becoming confined to eastern areas including Mt Ruapehu. On Monday, another cold front crosses the country. Otherwise, fine and frosty weather for most areas until Friday. Avalanche risk on Ruapehu is now rated as extreme. Snow depths are at record levels for the time of year with 5m recorded at Tukino. Check local avalanche advisories before venturing off piste anywhere in NZ this week..

Resort caters mostly for German guests, there are no English newspapers. Schlick 2000 - sorry not recommended, more buses required! No green runs, blues are difficult for beginners. Fine if you like having to plan your skiing around the advertised "regular buses" that stop running at 11am and might turn up again about 2.30pm, then every half hour. We seemed to spend too much time waiting around. Kids ski school was manic, too many kids with 1 teacher. Nursery slopes require a truck ride which is only available for people paying for ski school. Until you can ride a T bar lift you are stuck there or you have a very big uphill walk back to the gondola. Cafes are all reasonably priced. The best food choices are at the top Panorama restaurant. The Stubierhoff hotel was excellent. Aprox 40 mins bus ride to the glacier where there is a lot more skiing.
