Falls Creek summary

Falls Creek is 356kms (about 4.5 hours) from Melbourne and approximately eight hours' drive from Sydney. Falls Creek enjoys some of the best snow cover of all the Victorian ski Resorts, combined with the ambiance of a beautiful Alpine Village. It has 450 hectares of ski terrain for the downhill and snowboarding enthusiast and a fully integrated lift network. For the cross country and ski touring skiers, the Bogong High Plains offer some of the most beautiful mountain scenery anywhere. 2004 saw the addition of a super pipe, the first in Australia, and Falls Creek continues to develop new terrain for riders. The real attraction of this resort is the opportunity to ski at the adjacent Mt McKay, with 365m of true black diamond terrain. Guided snow cat trips take place twice a day and it is well worth the trip. Off the slopes, Falls Creek has more than 4,200 beds in the village ranging from economy style to luxury. There is a variety of self contained apartments, commercial lodges, and self catering lodges. Off-mountain accommodation is available at Mt. Beauty, Bo gong Village, and Howman's Gap.

Resorts close to Falls Creek include: Dinner Plain (17 km), Mount Hotham (17 km), Mount Buffalo (44 km), Mt Stirling (74 km), Mount Buller (81 km),

Visitor Reviews of Falls Creek

Hans from AUSTRALIA writes:

My wife and I have skied in Europe, Japan, Canada, and Colorado, as well as Australia, and while Japan and America have always been reliably good, even Austria, France, Italy and Spain can have bad seasons. 2006 was a shocker throughout Australia, but we found Falls Creek to stand out as the best, mostly due to arguably the best snowmaking and grooming teams in the country. 2008 was outstanding (despite a late start) and we skied better conditions at Falls (Falls Creek) than we found in 3 trips to Canada.
Due to a short ski season compared to America and Japan, the accommodation costs are higher, but those on a budget can still stay in Falls Creek and enjoy the best ski in - ski out resort in the country,
