Argentiere is located just up the valley from Chamonix and is connected to the same ski area. Argentiere sits at the base of Les Grandes Montets and you can be skiing at 3275 m soon after falling out of bed. The town at Argentiere is smaller and there is less to do than Chamonix but most people nip on the free bus and head into Chamonix in the evening where you will find a mix of eateries and bars and an interesting mix of skiers and mountaineers.

Resorts close to Argentiere include: Le Tour (3 km), Chamonix (8 km), La Fouly - Val Ferret (13 km), Les Houches (14 km), Sixt (14 km),

NEW! Announcements & News from the Argentiere ski resort manager

  • Season opens: 15 Jun 2013
  • Season closes: 12 May 2013

Welcome to inter-season.

The meadows are looking lush, first wave of flowers are blooming and trails for walking and biking are clearing.

More rock faces are drying up for climbing.

After the epic winter there are still a lot of touring routes up the Midi to be done.

The railway line from Chamonix to Vallorcine is still closed for work.

Work on a new high capacity lift for Grands Montets due to start this summer.

Summer lift service starts 15 June. Expect to have improved downhill mountain bike trail to use.

Information supplied 13 May 2013

Visitor Reviews of Argentiere

Dodgy from France writes:

Stay away. It's getting far too crowded, everyone skis off-piste so the powder only lasts a couple hours, the lift system from the valley is a joke, a 4 man chair that they only allow 2 by 2 when its snowing i.e. powder days, when its busy. Poor information on opening, the web site isn't updated and is often wrong. The terrain is fantastic but if you want to ski untracked powder go to a family resort where they aren't as likely to ski it. I just spent a couple of weeks in another resort ( no, I won't give the name ) and skied untracked powder every day with no rush to get to it.
