Åre Ski Resort Guide (resort name also written as Are)
Åre is a small town made up of traditional wooden buildings. The mountain caters mainly for beginner to intermediates but there are plenty of slopes to be explored along the valley. The Scanners have produced some excellent snowboarders and free-riding skiers and this has to be, in part, the result of great terrain parks. There is a 1.4 km long park and a half-pipe at Åre but, in addition, there are two smaller parks to play in if you can't yet mix it with the big players. Off the slopes at Åre there is plenty to do; sleigh rides, x-country skiing and so on. Eating out is pricey but overall the nightlife is excellent and very lively! Just take some warm clobber and plenty of cash.

Visitor Reviews of Åre
Richard Bloomfield from United Kingdom writes:
I have chosen Scandinavia for the last three years because, despite what other reviews on here say, it is very quiet. We find the town has a good choose of bars and restaurants and there is some night life too.
When the cost of eating out and drinking in France is so high, Sweden has become a cheaper alternative. Plus when to you last rent an apartment in France with a sauna in the bathroom!
The snow conditions are much the same as any French resort, but rather than ice and slush, the slopes in Are are normally just hard packed snow.
You rarely have to wait in lift lines, at worst a couple of minutes, but there are quite a few long drag lifts.
It can get cold, especially in early January when the days are also quiet short - ride all day and don't stop for lunch.
I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap winter holiday or late season ride. The people are friendly, speak perfect English.
With snow conditions in Europe being so poor this year, it's a no-brainier.
