Abetone Ski Resort Guide
Abetone is the major Apennine resort. It is located in a state forest on the Modena to San Marcello Road, near the border between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, The ski access points are at Faidello (1220m) Abetone (1400m) Le Regine (1200m) Plan di Novello (1150m) and Cutigliano (733m). The area has 54 lifts over a wide area with 27 at Abetone itself, including many chairs. These access an extensive network of mixed-ability pistes above and below the tree-line. The highest point (Monte Gomito) is 1940m. 20 kilometers of the ski slopes have snow-making facilities. There are 2 ski schools.

Many thanks indeed to another reviewer for recommending Abetone and the Albergo Primula. As a seasoned skier of most resorts in Europe and Canada, I was completely surprised and overjoyed to discover this 'hidden gem'. Ryanair fights to Pisa and Bologna from all parts of the UK (As little as £30!) then car hire or bus service to virtually the front door of the Albergo Primula. My family had the best holiday ever and we will certainly be returning next year. I would strongly recommend this resort to skiers of all abilities seeking value for money in a delightful relaxing resort amongst friendly people who can't do enough to help.
