Durango was great. The riverwalk through the heart of town is great - watch out for bicycles though! If you drive 2-3 hours in any direction you can see some of the most beautiful places in the country. North into the San Juan Mountains, East through the mountains to Great Sand Dunes, West to Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands, and Monument Valley, and South to Santa Fe.

I lived in the Durango area for several years and had to move away. This was another revisit. The main attraction is the railroad. I have taken the Cascade run and it is a wonderful experience. I believe Durango has a good mix of acitivites for young and old. There are so many great restaurants and children appear to be welcome. It is a tourist town, yet I have always found that customer service is great wherever I go. There are galleries and books stores and toy stores. There is so much history to glean with exciting stories of the settlers and the miners in the area. Then of course, the outdoor activities are year round and endless. The mountain views are topped only by the ones in Ouray and Silverton in this area.

Cost of living went through the roof during/after the pandemic. Durango is experiencing a housing crisis. Stunning location and close to beautiful country. Spirit of the town has changed dramatically over the years. Spirit of the mountains and surrounding area is naturally the same. The town feels kinda fake.

A nice town. Touristy, but nice.
A nice town. Touristy, but nice. Great Hotel, older, small rooms, but very nice. Very close to D&SNGRR depot, so very handy for us. Nice town, but, perhaps a bit pricey overall. But, we knew were on vacation, and we certainly enjoyed our stay.
Hosts were very friendly and helpful with information on the area. The breakfasts were excellent. The history of the house from the host was very entertaining. The location was far enough from the bustle of downtown Durango to be very quiet at night, but easy to walk to downtown so you didn't need to take your car and deal with trying to find parking downtown.
Very friendly staff. Easy to get out of town to visit mountains or downtown. Free ad-free HULU was a nice touch. Able to park close to room. No coffee maker in room, but coffee available all day from Durango Joe’s was really good and much appreciated! Everything was clean and in working order.
I think the pool and hot tub were my favorite part of my stay. Once you get there you will see what I mean. The rooms all have the giant windows that give a classy feel to the hotel along with being located practically downtown Durango. It’s one of my favorite hotels in the city.
Very nice room for a modest price, especially for Durango. The motel is across the street from a City Market and near the trolley stop which makes it a breeze to get into downtown. I was on a solo motorcycle trip and wasn’t looking for a 5 star resort. Great value.
We came to Durango especially to experience the Durango & Silverstone train ride and the hotel was just 5 minutes away by walking.
We didn't know that there was a complimentary breakfast which was a nice surprise, the breakfast buffet was delicious.
When entering the hotel it looked like Disneyland in the real world with beautiful Victorian interiors. Friendly helpfull staff. The location is top notch, directly at the beginning of Main Street and the train ride to Silverton around the corner.
Chose this hotel for the location -- on the river and an easy walk into downtown Durango. It was clean, appeared new, and the staff was very friendly. Underground parking in a secure garage. Had a balcony, but didn't use it due to the weather.
The location of the General Palmer Hotel is excellent. It is especially convenient to be able to park the car and walk everywhere in the downtown area. The room was nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable.
It had an indoor pool/hot tub, it had breakfast options, it was very close (walking distance) to downtown Durango, the beds had a lot of pillows and the room fridge was big, which we needed.
very kind stuff, nice standard for econolodge, spacious, 20 mins walk to the historic downtown, we felt safe, they have whirlpool, they had breakfast , very kind people in at the reception
Our rooms were clean and comfortable!
Breakfast was amazing, staff were helpful, Friendly and accommodating!
Great ambassadors for Durango city!
We will stay here every visit!
good location, comfortable bed. nice shower
Beautiful Lobby and friendly clerk but could not understand him as Durango has many people from other countries working there.
