Kalavrita is a gorgeous town with lots of Greek History important sites, amazing nature walks and hike, lovely very affordable food and welcoming people. Kalavrita is a nice town (bigger and more lively then expected... but again not a big town). We found a good restaurant offering a big variety of Greek food. When we were there after the mid of August there was a nice concert in the main square and there were many people around. The shops were opened as well. Kalavrita is a nice get away. You don’t have to go to ski, just being in the quaint town it’s perfect. Strolls, eating out, there are some awesome places to eat. We visited the Holocaust museum, that is realized in the real original school building where Nazist soldiers activated the massacre of Kalavitra inhabitants. Very well organized, effective, emotional Then, we took the opportunity to jump on the cog train towards Diakopto, and to experience the unique, beautiful and unforgettable walk along the railroad path, with magnific view on the Vouraikos gorge and river. Excellent dinner at "To Spitikou", with very good fresh Greek food and warm welcom by the host

We arrived in the late afternoon, stayed a day to ride the narrow gauge railway in the gorge, visit the museum, and the Memorial site on the hill. The town is very nice with nice shops and restaurants. It was a bit quiet in October, but we found everything we needed. The train ride was scenic and the museum very interesting if you are interested in WWII history. It's a very sad chapter of history of course, but very well presented to honor the many victims and tell the story. The ride up to Kalavryta from the autobahn is amazing! We didn't get to visit the two monasteries nearby. You may want to consider a full two days if you want to see them as well.
