Best place to plan to climb Jebel Toubkal (4160 m) – Morocco’s and North Africa’s highest mountain. Not only Toubkal but many other day trips and hikes can take place from Imlil including visiting Berber villages, with guides who can be hired locally with many different types of trips to meet your needs, horse, donkey or bicycle its all on offer. Note no local ATM machines so take enough cash or be prepared for a short trip to Ansi. Wherever you travel the views are inspiring.

excellent hideaway from the heat of Marrakesh.
excellent hideaway from the heat of Marrakesh.
Zarathustra restaurant cooked us a fantastic dinner, for the right price. We has a look to their rooms, and other that there was no air-con at the time, the style, price and size were very nice. Some of the rooms had shared bathroom.
We did not find good restaurants in Imlil other than the above, though we did not check other hotels and riads. there are some local restaurants that were ok, very local....

Even if you aren’t planning to hike Toubkal, I would 100% suggest Imlil for a quiet weekend to get away from the bustle and bustle of Marrakech. In my two trips to Morocco, I’ve visited Imlil three times, once for a day, once for several days on my second trip just to relax with no plans of hiking Toubkal, and then I returned with friends to hike Toubkal.
My experience with the people of Imlil is that they are genuinely welcoming and kindhearted, not just pretending to be because you’re a tourist with money, as I’ve experienced in other cities. The prices of things are also typically better than in Marrakech overall, although they are still geared towards tourists.
Despite being a few different settlements, Imlil is a small village where everyone knows each other and is happy to help you find what you’re looking for. There are plenty of guides for a day hike or for hiking Toubkal, and whatever lodging you stay at can usually help you find someone to guide you.
Overall, Imlil is my favorite place in Morocco, and coming here feels like returning home.

Incredible mountain village.
Incredible mountain village. The mountains and nature are breath-taking. If you want peace away from it all I highly recommend!
The local people are very peaceful and kind too. Don't be shy to say hello!
One of my favourite places in Morocco so far
We absolutely LOVED our stay at this Riad!! We were treated with such kindness and welcome by Elias and everybody at the Riad, and received all of our meals in the house, except when we decided to eat in Imlil village. The whole experience was fantastic value and has been our favourite booking from our whole trip in Morocco. Also thank you to Lahsen, our guide who so kindly took us on our hike in the mountains, and made our experience even better!
A special mention to Elias for going above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be.
Omar and his family were so warm and charming. Even his nephew offered his services as a guide for a gorgeous hike. Omar’s daughter joined us and we really felt welcomed into the family. His wife cooks all the meals and each one was the best of its kind in all Morocco. Also, Omar was extremely attentive to ensuring that we had fair and prompt transportation to and from Imlil. The room was comfortable, clean and charming with stunning views. We stargazed on the roof in the evening and it was an absolutely divine experience!
We spend a night in Imlil and we recommend this accommodation. Hassan is a great host. He understood our needs - we started early morning for a hike to Toubkal. Hassan allowed us to left some baggage inside. Moreover, we had the best Tajine here - from our 10 days stay in Morocco. There is terrace with a beautiful panoramatic view. The accommodation was well equipped - there are even mobile heaters. Thank you Hassan for your patience and help.
First of all The staff at this hotel were so friendly and helpful mostly My friend " AZIZ " he made our stay so enjoyable & comfortable... I wanna thank him for a good services and helps ...
The stay was lovely , loved the breakfast which was included. The place was clean and the hotel its the middle of mountains very close to downtown and Near by Valley... Enjoyed the stay.Thank you very much for having us and for all of your hospitality.
Beautiful quiet village location in Imlil. Picturesque walks direct from the hotel. The outdoor terraces with Mountain views are especially nice. Breakfast was served on the lower one and was delicious, We didn’t use the pool as it wasn’t warm enough when we were there as the location is already quite high in the mountains, but it looked lovely - perfect for summer. Rooms were comfortable, and the owner is very helpful. We would stay again.
This guesthouse is located high up the hill in Armed. From the terrace you have a wonderful view on the Toubkal mountain range and the river valley and lower parts of the Armed village below. We received a very warm welcome by Rachid and his father, and the tajine we had for dinner was the best during our whole trip in Morocco! Tip: contact Rachid before arrival, as the guesthouse is somewhat hard to find in the narrow Armed streets.
stunning location in the Atlas Mountains with majestic views of mount Toubkal from the terrace and balconies.
The Riad is in a tiny village on the mountain face overlooking the picturesque Imlil valley.
Riad is owned and run by the Berber family (Ibrahim, Rachid, Bushra and Fatiha) who are the most hospitable and lovely hosts. you are made to feel at home right from when you arrive.
Such a cool hotel! It looks so nice on the inside, good warm shower, even a hairdryer, beautiful views, friendly staff. Looks pretty new to me. Imlil is easy to reach by car, they are working on the roads that were damaged by the earthquake, but they are very welcoming to tourism. I recommend eating at the hotel, Osama is a great chef and makes lovely soup and tajine.
Everything. The views from our balcony were out of this world and just breathtaking. The staff, especially Hussain, were so genuinely warm and welcoming. Absolutely nothing was any trouble. They organised our trek to Jebel Toubkal as well as equipment, guide, food everything.
The food, including breakfast was faultless.
We loved Dar Imlil. Thank you so much
Beautiful view from the terrace, caring friendly mountain guides hosts, authentic Berber village experience away from the touristy Imlil, generous homemade dinners you can order, a lot of trails, little balcony with view, the cute little lambs. Happy we chose to stay here
Quiet location and walkable from central imlil. We had a car and a nice space was provided for parking. The shower worked well. Breakfast was good. The host provided snacks on arrival and was very flexible for check in time. The price to value for this hotel is spectacular.
The hotel was amazing and exceeded our expectations. The views were glorious and the staff were superb. The dinner at the hotel was one of the best we had in Morocco. We recommend staying here and also organising the guide for a mountain hike through the hotel.
This is not my first stay in this hotel. I really like their food, they have the best Tajin in Morocco. I am not exaggerating, the staff are super friendly and ready to provide your requests. The size of the room are super big and the location is great.
amazing balcony. Hassan, the owner, was a great host and a terrific guide on our trek through the mountains surrounding Imlil. Breakfasts were good and dinners amazing. the rooms (one single and one double) were comfortable and pleasant.
We had a great view from anywhere we stand in the hotel, the tajine served at dinner was great, we loved the overall atmosphere. staff were friendly, Mohamed and his friend were very welcoming and helpful.
The view from the house is exceptional, the staff is very friendly, helpful, and speaks good English. Amazing quality for the money. The best place we stayed at in Morocco.
