FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

Such a beautifully clean and safe city.

Such a beautifully clean and safe city. So much history, creativity, design and art is evident throughout this city. I have never felt more safe in a city than I did here. I wish I had more time to enjoy the tourist activities. It is also a foodies haven, so many fabulous options. The city is quite walkable and transit seems like a great alternative. I did not encounter anyone who could not or did not speak English. The people were friendly. The only downfall, it is a very expensive city. The waterfront was my favourite place to spend any leisure time I had. Don't take a taxi from the airport if you can help it, there is a train that goes from the airport right into the central station in Oslo - apparently much faster, cheaper and more convenient. I will know for next time.

Great city to see, but if you don't plan on doing many activities or going to museums a weekend is enough to see the major tourist attractions and see the city. I would definitely not recommend going to the munch museum (while I love his art) especially if you are in a wheelchair or need to bring a bag for (for example) medical reasons because you WILL get permission at first but be kicked out later. Super unfriendly staff and amazingly underwhelming. I would recommend the opera house and wandering around the many different shopping centres. The natural history museum is also very nice! The statue park is definitely worth the walk from the centre!

We were passing through on the way to Stockholm and were there only for the night, unfortunately. Oslo seems like a lovely city, with an attractive and accessible harbour area with lots of restaurants. It was easy to find excellent pubby places and restaurants, the downtown area is very walkable. Possible to walk right up to the royal palace and house of parliament (which would never happen in the US, where we're always half-expecting trouble). Highly recommend Oslo, and then the train trip to Stockholm.

The city had been stormed on so my plan tp spend a day wandering was quashed by icy sidewalks. I went to the Royal Palace and wandered around Sentrum and that was it. City seemed nice and the people I encountered were friendly. If I get the chance I will spend a week in Oslo and really explore. It looks like a great city from the limited visit I had.

Oslo, the capital of Norway, boasts stunning natural beauty, with its picturesque fjords and lush greenery. The city's efficient public transportation and extensive bike paths make it easy to explore, while its rich cultural scene offers a variety of museums, galleries, and vibrant street art. However, the high cost of living can be a drawback for budget travelers, and the winters can be harsh. Despite the pricey aspect, Oslo's charm lies in its blend of modernity and nature, providing a unique experience for visitors.

We enjoyed a couple of days in Oslo (would like to visit in the Summer and do more outdoor things). It is a clean city, and easy to travel around but lacks a little character (the old city burned down a couple of 100 years ago). We visited 3 museums which were excellent value for money and very interesting.

The Grand Hotel is a beautiful old hotel perfectly located walking distance to nearly everything. The staff is very nice, dealing with an impossible situation with grace and understanding. Our room was recently refreshed and very nice except we could not see out the window due to scaffolding. The bed was comfortable . At night our room was quiet. I think if construction was not happening my review would be very good. But I have to rate the hotel based on my personal experience.

Book the Deluxe Double Room. The location is perfect and very close to everything. The lounge is severely underrated and should be visited by all who stay here. The chef was brought in and is amazing. Small menu, tried everything and it was all 5 star. The rooms can be surprisingly small in this hotel. The Deluxe Double rooms are on the front corner of the hotel and have the most space (see my fire exit picture). It is worth every penny for this space and it has the best view.

This hotel was one of our absolute highlights during our Norway trip! We were greeted with heartiness and instantly felt super comfy. The pool was huge, sauna was nice too. Rooms were spacious and super tidy, and, in general, this more than 100 years old hotel showed the class of a Grand Hotel! On top, breakfast was outstanding. Really, we have travelled a lot but this experience was one of a kind! We definitely will return!

Breakfast was from a choice of 2 cafes and a credit on the Bob W. App Reception area. Very easily redeemed at the cafe. Calming room fragrance of a forest essence Osmia. Gentle essence and not off-putting like many hotels can be in the lobby. Quiet for being in the city center, and I was in the top floor. Request if you need quiet!
