nice ski resort, bit hidden from the rest of switzerland but great for a weekend, especially when there has been a dump. Airolo itself has seen better times. There are a couple of restaurants in the street in front of the station, not much to see otherwise

Who in their right mind would want to go to Airolo?
Who in their right mind would want to go to Airolo? Usually travellers that use the Gotthard-tunnel in northerly direction. We decided to dodge the traffic jam and stay the night as near to the tunnel entrance as possible.
For those that want to stay the night and travel on through the tunnel the next morning: make sure you’re on time! (Certainly before 9AM and preferably earlier) During peak-season the northbound entrance to the motorway at Airolo is blocked during the day, to prevent cut-through traffic. If that happens you have to backtrack on the old road to entrance nr 42 at Quinto and join the motorway queue north all over again.
When you arrive in the afternoon and there are long queues for the Gotthard, don’t join them until you reach exit 41 at Airolo, but leave the motorway at the earlier exit at Quinto and make your way to Airolo using the local road.

Airolo is a small village in North of Canton Ticino at the feet of Gotthard Massif with good connection (car and train) to the rest of Switzerland. Great Outdoor (ski, bike, hiking) in very challenging mountain einvronment. Excellent for ski touring (Val Bedretto) but very challenging terrain (get a local or a guide).

Basically a junction for all transport modes - entrance to the rail tunnel, the motorway through the San Gottardo and at the foot of both motor roads. But a well-equipped small mountain town with some choices to eat.
Impeccably clean. Warm welcome. I asked for a quiet room, and the one I was given (No 309) was exactly what I asked for. Very friendly staff. Breakfast choice was perhaps a bit limited but, as there was unlimited tea and superb espresso included in the already most reasonable price, this is certainly not sth. I would complain about. Also included (but not mentioned on the hotel’s site) was free Wifi and the TV in the room. All in all, excellent value for money, and I shall now make this my hotel of choice for my annual visit to Airolo.
Attentive owners and very friendly, the hotel has been renovated recently so everything is brand
New and furnished with taste. Wooden Floors are amazing. Bathrooms big and room spacious. Breakfast was good too and even the
Eggs came with a touch of creativity in its
Presentation. All the greens come from
Their vegetable garden. Food at dinner was tasteful but remember to order special dinner set menus( by that it means gastronomic menus) BEFOREHAND! Otherwise it’s the regular familiar plates.
Our room was simple but spacious with two twin beds and a bunk bed. The bathroom had a tub bath. Breakfast at the hotel was ample and good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Be sure to ask for the Ticino Ticket when you check in, which allows free trips on trains and buses in the region as well as discounts on tourist attractions. The location, across the street from the train station, made transportation very easy and accessible.
Great location for hiking: just opposite the station, so perfect for public transport connections, but super quiet! Good sized modern bedroom, small bathroom but large washbasin with plenty of space for toiletries. Loved the yellow direction signs to the different zones in the hotel, copying the yellow hiking signs :)
Good food, free hotel parking spaces just across the road, friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.
Very nice small B2B in Airolo. It has only few rooms and you can see that the owners care about the details, and making you feel good. There is a very nice bike storage room and Wifi works impeccably. Gluten and lactose free options were provided at breakfast and the owners were very supportive. The restaurant menu in the evening is limited, but the restaurant is part of the Slow Food movement, where mostly regional ingredients are used.
I selected this hotel for its proximity to the train station...so convenient. While I enjoyed meals in the hotel, there were cafes all along the street and a great grocery store. Breakfast was ample...great coffee, croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, etc. A highlight for me was the cable car that is just up the street. Bus service from the train station as well.
We had (family with 3 kids) a great stay for one night in a family room while travelling south. Our dog was warmly welcome and the room offered enough space for us all. We arrived unexpectedly very late at night and the owners were really kind and organised for us a late check-in. Breakfast was really good. Parking is just next to the hotel.
honest old hotel which did everything it says. It is opposite the train station in an isolated part of the world. the rooms were tidy, the breakfast more than adequate and my dinner was in a warm hearted room. so ticked all the boxes.
A well appointed apartment in central Airolo. The hosts had even set the heating running prior to our arrival on motorcycles on a very wet day. The washer and drier were much appreciated.
Charming hotel, nostalgic feel.
Although everything in the rooms and the common areas of the hotel was old, everything worked and nothing was broken.
Friendly staff at the reception.
Great location in Airolo close to the ski lifts as well as other outdoor sports. the kitchen was very nice and it was a great value. The owner/manager was very helpful.
it was a really cute hotel. very clean and bright. loved the use of hiking signs as directions in the hotel. the restaurant was very good. great location.
