Hotel Route-Inn Tsuruoka Inter, hotel in Tsuruoka

A 7-minute walk from Yudonosan Jinja Shrine, the Route-Inn Tsuruoka Inter features a relaxing hot public bath, a restaurant and free-use internet PCs.

I was surprised to find out that the Hotel has its own Onsen, which guests can use for free! The Onsen facility is good, with lots of amendments in the male facility. It was a great experience! The breakfast facility is also free.

The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful. I wish though that I was given a cleaner room. There were dust or the bed sheets were rather dusty.

Shukubo Daishinbo, hotel in Tsuruoka

A 350 year old temple inn, Shukubo Daishinbo offers Japanese-style accommodations, a large public bath and free Wi-Fi. Featuring a garden and free parking, the property lies surrounded by nature.

Great location close to Hagurosan and Gassan. Hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very cool too - traditional Shukubo lodging and the building was beautiful. The room was very large, traditional Japanese style like you would expect from a Ryokan stay. Overall great value too (note: I visited for two weekdays in early August).

I came at the wrong time of year.

I came at the wrong time of year. Gassan was already closed, but it wasn't late enough in the season for momiji. The shuttle bus for Yudonosan only runs on weekends, so next time I'll have to rent a car. There are plenty of public baths and onsens to relax in after exploring the town and climbing mountains!!! I'll have to go again before they harvest the rice fields though. I bet the scenery will be beautiful!!!
