This is located close to lots of great restaurants and an easy walk to the old town. Owner was very accommodating and allowed us to leave our car parked for free for a couple hours extra while we had a look around. The accommodation did not have a sofa, but rather a comfy table with four chairs upstairs and downstairs. They had very nice house slippers, which came in handy since the hallways were a bit chilly, but the rooms we used where quite comfortable. I think the locals do a morning market most days along the river near the old town, but they start wrapping it up around 11am. Try the Wagyu beef served on a stick, so yummy and tender!

Takayama is a beautiful alpine area and well worth a visit. We enjoyed great views from the Hida train on our way up to Takayama. We loved the less hectic pace and the onsens at our hotel were wonderful. The Hida heritage folk village was fascinating especially as it was snowing when we visited! Could have spent more time in the old part of town. Great food and friendly people.

Small city, under 100,000, had a very relaxed, and friendly atmosphere. A tourist town with a well preserved old town, great for walking. All tour groups that I saw were Japanese rather than foreign.Fun browsing-shopping area. A very pleasing blend of old and new. Easy to find English speakers, most signs of interest in Japanese and English alphabet. Many interesting small restaurants. Beautiful natural surroundings.

    Our favourite spot in Japan.

Our favourite spot in Japan. Such a cute town, brilliant food (you must do a Hida Beef meal, as well as try the local ramen), and fascinating walk through the Old Town. Highly recommended a day trip to Shirakawago AND Ainokura (most tours just go to very popular Shirakawago... but the smaller Ainokura is really special).

We usually stay at places for three nights, but we saw some videos that really hyped up Takayama so we stayed four. It was a bit too long. Takayama was referred to in an article we read as "Little Kyoto". Well, yes it was, if you are talking about the number of tourists in the place. So. Many. Tourists. The wood carving in Takayama was the best thing about the place. Such talented sculptors. Shirakawa-go was hugely over rated, and the tourist infestation was even worse there. Not to mention the local transportation hasn't caught up to the uptick in tourism; this is the only place in Japan that I've been to where public transit seems difficult. Both the Nohi busses and even the JR were difficult to catch. There are some beautiful shrines here, but where in Japan aren't there beautiful shrines? This Japan trip we stayed in the following places: Takayama city, Takayama up near the Shinhotaka Onsen, Tateyama, Kanazawa, and Kaga (Yamanaka Onsen). Takayama city was our least favorite destination of the five.

We went there during the New Year's holidays, so lots of shops were closed. That's why we couldn't appreciate the tourist spot in Takayama at that time, but it is definitely a great place to stay if you wish to visit Shirakawago, Shinhotaka ropeway, etc. It has restaurants, coffee shops (even Starbucks! ), and McDonalds. There are lots of hotels that are very close to JR Station. The bus transportation going to the neighboring tourist attractions has excellent service! It's very convenient!

The decorations and design of the hotel is on point. It is a mix of modern and traditional Japanese style. All the facilities are new and functional well. The common spa is very nice , you can get ice cream after a hot bath. The location is very good, it is near Takayama old town. The highlight is the free drink after 5pm! You can get the Sake tasting set, and other beverages until 11pm. It was such a nice offer and good way to enjoy the end of the day after walking around. The staff are very nice and helpful. I definitely come back!

Located in close proximity to Takayama's most interesting streets and sights, the hotel's inviting reception area offered ample seating options, while the free sake and beer in the evening added to the pleasant experience. The nice public onsen provided a relaxing escape, and the staff's attentiveness made the stay even more enjoyable. However, the breakfast consisted only of a standard Japanese set served per person, which was delicious.

It was one of our best accomodation ever. The place was cozy, clean and very beautifully decorated. It really has a ryokan spirit, but recently renovated. The attention of Tai and his family was overwhelming, taking us and picking us up to and from downtown Takayama, giving us recommendations.. they even had a nice detail to prepare us a cake to celebrate our honeymoon. The japanese breakfast that they prepared for us was amazing.

The hotel staff was very helpful and even bow when you walk past the staffs. There was 2 microbus per hour from the Takayama station to hotel. (5 minutes). The room (Japanese style room with tatami) was big enough for 2 people stay and very quiet. There was 2 onsens. A big one on the 1st floor and a smaller one in the basement. The breakfast had plenty of food, buffet style and you can choose to have western/Japanese meals.

A friendly Ryokan that offers a some extended service, such as picking you up at the station if you so wish. The dinner offers a number of dishes and is well prepared, as a Westerner you will be impressed. The bath is hot and typically Japanese. Wonderfully. The proximity to Takayama's old wooden town just a few blocks away makes this accommodation ideal for a visitor. I would love to come back!

I particularly like the free amenities in the hotel, such as ice machines, free green tea, free sauna, and onsen. They have different incentives too like if you don't have your room clean, you get a gift. You can change the 2 free water bottles in your room for 2L big one. The breakfast buffet is 1000 yen, which is affordable. They have American/English breakfast and Japanese breakfast available.

This is not a Ryokan in the true sense but it gets close. The room is big with its own small onsen/bathtub. It's very clean and comfortable. The outdoor onsen is nice. The indoor ones we didn't try (we only stayed one night). The beds are real mattresses. Breakfast is generous and in Kaiseki-style. We didn't book dinner at the hotel. Would recommend.
