Amazing ski resort with great snow and very friendly...
Amazing ski resort with great snow and very friendly personnel. Everything worked nicely and the small town center is lovely.
Streets can get narrow so make sure you have parking in advance if going by car. Also check distance from ski lifts.

Beautiful, clean inn with wonderful hosts.
Beautiful, clean inn with wonderful hosts. Great common premises, especially the kitchen, which is great for breakfast (you can buy coffee pods at cost from the host). The futons were very comfortable. We hope to return!
Recommendation for future guests: try to make reservations for restaurants for your entire stay once you arrive (and the inn staff can help) to avoid lining up in cold weather.

Stick to businesses owned and operated by local Japanese.
Stick to businesses owned and operated by local Japanese. Those owned by foreigners are often over-priced with inferior service....sure you might get to speak English, but stay home if that's important...;)

Amazing and cute little village!
Amazing and cute little village! Ski hill is great too (needs a bit more English signage). Be sure to book any of the nicer/better restaurants way in advance! These book out quickly (Aussies book these places out!)

An amazing and authentic Japanese experience.
An amazing and authentic Japanese experience. The rooms were brilliant and the Onsen was next level luxury. Made the whole ski experience a pleasure being just a short stroll from the Yu road travellator access. Highly recommend it

This was my first trip to Nozawa Onsen, but I have been to...
This was my first trip to Nozawa Onsen, but I have been to Niseko many times. Nozawa Onsen feels like a magical piece of Japan history whereas Niseko is more glitz and glam and shiny. I like both and think skiers/snowboarders that visit Japan should try both. Niseko is like the fancy new mall that has everything, but also expensive and requires paid parking. Nozawa Onsen is like finding an old boutique with the same owners for 30+ years. It's got more charm and stories to tell.
Also, the public onsens are a great experience. Walking around the village during/after fresh snowfall is a real treat too!
This is the PERFECT location. A 3 minute stroll to the gondola. If you rent and store skis around the corner at Thanx it is truly ski in ski out...and there are good coffee options on the short walk.
Large room, thoughtful staff (thanks Tomi), in house onsen, and easy access to everything. Location always needs some compromise in Nozawa onsen. After several visits we have settled on easy access to the Nagasaka gondola in the morning....and a walk up the hill home from dinner as our preference.
We would definitely stay here again.
I loved everything about my stay here at this cozy dorm . From the private Onsen to the kind hospitality, this place exceeded my expectations. Also, I highly recommended paying the extra fee for the breakfast, it was absolutely delicious. This was the first time my husband and I opted to stay in a dorm type of hotel with shared bathrooms and a common area for everyone to use. I would definitely stay here again .
My room, the view on the village was beautiful ! Really comfortable, with hot water and complimentary tea ! The private bathroom was a real plus, as well as the yukata provided by the lodge. Lovely and welcoming hosts, and ideal location. I loved the light sound of water/river by the hotel, it's a very soothing and calming music to me. Would come back next year, if there's any room available !
Nice hotel with bigger rooms than usual in Japan, staff was very helpful. The hotel lives up to its name, you have a great view over Nozawa Onsen from the upper floors. Be aware it’s a bit of a walk to the ski slopes. The breakfast was good, but it’s a Japanese set. Your western options are limited to some cereals, so you better like some fish in the morning. I’d stay again.
Arrived at Nozawa Onsen on a snowy evening and Shannon rang us to say that he could collect us from the bus terminal which was really wonderful. Free use of the laundry facilities was also great. The Ridge is a nice cosy, warm apartment to base yourself for skiing. Shannon also provided us with a shuttle back to the bus terminal. Highly recommend!
I went with friends for a ski weekend in Nozawa Onsen and we wanted a decent lodge at an affordable price. Lodge Matsuya exceeded our expectations. It's a simple place, but well maintained and comfortable. The proprietors were very nice and even reimbursed charges through the Booking.com site for one person who had to cancel at the last minute
Overall my stay here was mostly positive. The room had plenty of space, the bath was nice, and the staff was overall mostly friendly. They helped me get around Nozawa Onsen with a map and gave me plenty of tips around the town which I appreciated. They also gave me my ticket to the Fire Festival which was very helpful.
Togoro was an exceptional stay!
The staff were very lovely and would offer to help out whenever they could. The property was beyond clean and the room cleaning service provided us with anything we could possibly need. Togoro is in a central part of Nozawa Onsen, not to mention the bus stop is only about 50m away!
Property is lovely- super clean and simple yet stylishly furnished. Spacious and comfortable
Giorgio was fabulous as a host- incredibly friendly and helpful - and the breakfast was fantastic- we would have dinner in house when we go back
We will defiantly return - once of the best hotel stays we have had in Japan
Central location with a short walk to hotel albeit a little uphill from central bus terminal Close to central location and eating facilities in Nozawa. Excellent japanese hosts will provide shuttle to bus station when requested. Plan to experience some of the public onsens and beware of the hot water!
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Really kind to arrange vegan breakfast for us. Always ready to assist and behaved very courteously. The place was very clean and well maintained. The onsen in the hotel was clean and hygienic with all the facilities. I highly recommend this hotel.
It was everything I expected of a traditional ryokan, warm room, comfortable futon and fantastic quilt.
Shared bathrooms were very clean and accessible. Free traditional rice cake for breakfast prepared by host.
The price was value for money at approx AU$68 per night.
Mr. Kadowakikan was super friendly and helpful. He picked us up and dropped us off at the shuttle bus stop. He helped us order rental ski/snowboard equipment to the hotel. The hotel's own onsen was very clean and more comfortable than the town's free onsens.
The staff service are exceptional. The hotel owner has done above and beyond to make sure you have a good stay at Nozawa Onsen. The traditional rooms are big and clean. Cost of the room is very reasonable for the location.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was home-made traditional Japanese, with some Western-style food available, e.g. ham & eggs, cereal.
great option in Nozawa Onsen. Appartement with Japanese flair abd Western comfort. we were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast basics found in fridge.
