Niseko is the place you go when you want to travel/ski but want to feel like your still at home with all your comforts. The mountains pretty nice and not as busy as I expected in the late season.
Hirafu is stupidly over priced for accomodation and food. it's the Whistler of Japan. Lift tickets are expensive compared to most other resorts in Japan.
I only came because I had to do some training at Grand Hirafu.
I ended up staying in Kutchan for 5 of my 10 days as its more affordable and has more of an authentic Japanese feel, although you then may have to wait for buses and you'll be sacrificing the night life if thats what you're into.
Overall I would not return to Niseko unless it was a powder day and I was riding with some friends. Theres plenty of other options to choose from in my opinion.

Niseko is great for snowboarding.
Niseko is great for snowboarding. We were here for the powder and didn’t do much else. The mountain is not huge, but it is bigger than any other we have been to in Japan. The price is higher also. But you get some fun runs in and the tree areas are uncrowded. Would be great if there were more restaurants in the area that are halal or vegetarian friendly advertised on google maps. There are seasonal shuttle buses that operate in the area and the online maps and real time display of bus location is pretty good. Afuri has vegan ramen which was pretty good. Home Made Udon Goroku had vegetarian options also pretty delicious.

Hirafu (the main town around Niseko) is a vibrant ski town with lots of restaurants. I loved it. The skiing was great and so was the nightlife. You do not need a car if you stay in Hirafu. The only caution is that the town feels less Japanese and more “western,” with lots of western food and visitors from Australia, US and Europe. It felt less Japanese than I was expecting. For some visitors, that could be a plus. For others, it may be a negative.

Niseko is a very nice ski resort.
Niseko is a very nice ski resort. Everything is very well organised as in most Japanese ski resorts. The size of the ski resort and number of lifts allows to stay for a 2-3 days without feeling you rode this slope 10 times already. Connection with Niseko Village is not very convenient as you have to get quite high to move across. If you get there during peak season, book your restaurants way ahead otherwise, you will end up getting your food from the food trucks and Lawson. A mix of both will allow to manage your budget. Things are globally more expensive here than man other resorts.

Very heavily commercialised.
Very heavily commercialised. Not a lot of Japanese culture to experience and very dominated by westerners. But having said that, communication in English was made very easy because of this! Incredible resorts, facilities and views. I can see why it's so commercialised and westernised though - because it's a geographically incredible spot. Probably one of the best snow resorts on the planet.
For a capsule hotel, I’m not sure how you could improve this place. The staff were very helpful and always available (eg providing the correct charger converter, bus timetable etc), the entire place was very clean, there was ample space given to each person (a large amont under the bed + a large ski locker to keep your skiwear), and if you’re skiing in Moiwa, you are right next to the resort you could not be any closer. The lodge is conveniently located around 4 onsen closeby (within a 20 minute walk).
- comfortable area for family of 4.
- room are clean and well maintained.
- 2 vanity sinks are useful as we have 4 people
- microwave is great & come with cutlery eg plates
- free laundry & dryer is great
- breakfast has enough choices of western & Japanese.
- luv the outdoor onsen.
- no amenities within walking distance but free shuttle bus and Miru
Shuttle bus is doorstep. Very convenient.
- pickup fr HIRAFU welcome Centre is great.
- storage for ski & boots are gd.
We had a fantastic stay at OAC lodge. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms and facilities are clean and tidy. We ate downstairs at the Ascent bar and restaurant each night and all of the food was delicious. The location of the lodge is near to Niseko Village, with convenient shuttle buses in the morning and afternoons to take you to and from the slopes. Overall a great stay, would definitely recommend.
Common room facilities were appreciated for a long stay as we had the option to buy food and cook it at the hotel.
USB connections next to every bed was great.
Water pressure and a hot shower after a long day on the hill was fantastic.
Busses were great for acces to Hirafu and Hanazono.
They have separate washing machines and dryer with are so much better than the combined machines that other hotels usually have.
Nice and cozy place to stay at Niseko. Bus stop for the ski bus and hirafu shuttle are nearby. You'll love the fireplace, it's the best for snowy evenings. Evebody was king and helpful. The villa is a separate building connected to the main one with inside corridor, so coming for the breakfast is easy and with no need to go outside. If you don't have a car, it's possible to get morning hotel shuttle to the gondola.
The owners and management team were very nice, service oriented & helpful. The lodges are conveniently located near the Hirafu ski resort. Morning shuttles will be provided, which is awesome. Alternatively free local bus service is available during ski resort opening hours, otherwise it's nice 20 min walk to the resort and all restaurants etc. Breakfast is simple but great to get your energy up for skiing.
Food: many kinds of food, like coffee, eggs, etc. And you can also do self-service
Location: Only 200 meters (I think) away from Niseko grand Hirafu, it's easy to get my destination.
Staff: The lord lady is very patient and I am appreciate that she waited us until 12:00 pm. We also had nice talks about life, playing and works.
Facilities: Ski room, natural indoor hot spring, everything you need.
Fantastic location, ski in and out, excellent ski hire and lift tickets on site. Lovely Onsen (indoor and outdoor) - highlight of site. Regular shuttle bus service to neighbouring resorts towns from hotel.
Breakfast was great with good mix of Japanese and Western cuisine and views over mountain. Staff attentive and English speaking. Nothing to fault, will be back next year.
This hotel totally exceeded our expectations, and my family enjoyed our stay very much.
- Onsen and it's amenities/facilities were excellent
- room was clean and spacious
- open space next to hotel where young and old can enjoy walks in snow, sledding, creating snow angels and snowman, with view of Mt Yotei
- complimentary shuttle to places eg milk kobo and Hirafu
The hotel was very close to the ski lift, food trucks, and restaurants. It also had a great indoor and outdoor onsen.
The traditional Japanese room had a rustic taste, which was very pleasant.
The hotel is children friendly with snow toys provided for free.
One of the best hotel I’ve ever been in Japan!
The host was really friendly and helpful. The house is cozy and authentic.
The best breakfast I’ve ever had at the hotels. The dinners were good as well.
The host picks up to the ski resort in the morning.
We loved our stay at MyEcolodge! The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Rooms were small, but comfy and had everything we needed. The hotel shuttle service was a bonus.
I highly recommend staying at MyEcolodge if you're visiting Niseko.
Modern hotel that fits the bill for a relatively cheap trip to Niseko. Breakfast was nice with good choice of food, traditional Japanese and North American. Shuttles stopped early enough to keep me skiing everyday, couldn’t stay out all night 😉
Location to hill, great rooms, outstanding indoor and outdoor Onsens , good buffet breakfast and easy access ski lockers with buses and Gondola to get to from niseko yo village. Lounge was comfortable place to meet friends
Great Location in Hirafu Village with easy walking to shops and food. The SkiJapan team was very proactive with great communication. The parking pass at the resort was an unexpected and much appreciated bonus.
Hotel staff were very friendly and nice. The facility is new and clean. Best part is the hot spring in the facility. We had a fantastic time in Niseko. Best skiing, foods, location.
Beautiful, clean property with everything you need. Within walking distance of Hirafu, and near multiple shuttle stops that can take you to any of the 4 Niseko United resorts.
