Hirosaki is excellent option as a base to explore north Tóhoku. Very close to Iwaki-san, very close to Aomori city, very close to Ódate (Akita Inu centre). Excellent apples and okonomiyakis, juicy corn on Iwaki-san, spelndid Hirosaki castle! Very laid back and relaxed city but still many options to be entertained or go shopping. Look no further if you wish calm and relaxed but still sufficiently equipped base for your travels.

People very friendly.
People very friendly. The newly opened MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) is great. An iconic 19th century brick warehouse has been converted
while keeping much of the old feeling, its history
and memories intact. MOCA collects and exhibits contemporary works and hopes through art to connect thIs extended area with the world. For the
inaugural exhibition, some work by NARA Yoshitomo (born in Hirosaki) is on display together with other contemporaries. Japanese as well as
international artists.

We stayed two days here in October 19, which was about right. Easy to get to from Aomori. Castle and foundations is undergoing repair and has been temporarily moved - a major engineering feat. But you can still visit it. Very nice town.
Pity we were just a little to late to get to see the rice paddy art.

Hirosaki is filled with little wonders and delights.
Hirosaki is filled with little wonders and delights. Charming izakaya can be found all over, quiet bars to have a drink, or cultural delights like the Tsugaru Neputa village.
Known more as an agricultural hub (the apples here are fantastic), Hirosaki has much for going for it. The castle and gardens are worth a visit, along with the pagoda and temple.
A far cry from the pace of Tokyo, Hirosaki feels more like a slowed down and scaled bale Kyoto.
A trip to the summit of Iwaki-san (Mount Iwaki) should also be on your list. Unfortunately for keen cyclists, the 67 hairpins to the summit are only accessible by car or motorcycle due to the narrow road. Still, Hirosaki is a very walkable city - though i think it’s best by bicycle.
For western travellers, you can find good coffee, good food and plenty of conveniences to help you on your way. Though, being a smaller city, the public transport is predominantly bus

I pre-booked 3 nights but I could have stayed longer for more day trips. They promote local food. I ate well. Tourist information at the railway station was extremely helpful to me ... better if you have done a bit of research earlier but not essential. Restaurant Kikufuji is very close and was really good. Apple pie. Get the Hirosaki brochures and map; very helpful.
Stayed here with my girlfriend for her birthday. We stayed for two nights during the Sakura Festival. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean and aesthetic. The room service meals were tasty, with an array alcohol on the menu, served until 3 am. The host, Wataru, and his staff spoke plenty of English. When he found out it was a birthday stay, he went above and beyond. Surprised us with free sparkling wine and birthday cake! They also drove us to Hirosaki Park and to the station. Best hotel experience ever.
The hosts were really kind - the pick up and drop off at the stations, as well as the drop off at the Hirosaki Castle which was the purpose of my trip. I needed to leave earlier than scheduled on the departure date; they started the breakfast time earlier to accommodate me. Fresh flowers from the family’s garden in the house.
A little far from the train station to walk with luggage so we used a taxi. However there is a 100 yen ring bus which accesses many of the sites and goes right past the hotel. While the hotel was reasonably old the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Value for the price.
Located in a convenient location, there were a lot of restaurants/bars nearby. A room was bit small but it's the Japanese standard and was still comfortable. They have Onsen on the top floor- which was very nice. Amazing breakfast with a selection of local foods.
The location is easy to find and close to many tourist places in Hirosaki. It is also close to many resturants and bars. The room was quite spacious and the futons were especially comfortable. The staff were also nice and helpful.
Very good breakfast
Helpfull staff (always here to give you advices about the visit, restaurant...etc.)
Love public bath, always a must in Japan
There were also a local drinks tasting (for free)
Washing machines available
the staff was so nice and friendly, it is the house of an old couple. its not really a hotel but it just feels like youre staying over at your relatives or something. its very spacious. i really enjoyed the breakfast too.
The capsule was spacious and could even fit my 55L bag inside beside the bed. Great location right beside Hirosaki Station. Staff was helpful doing check in and explained to me how certain things work.
The room is small but sufficient and quite comfortable for a short stay. It is a short walking distance from Hirosaki Park with beautiful cherry blossoms during our visit. The breakfast is delicious.
bathrooms are very small in Japan… the way they positioned their bathroom layout was something I have never seen before and was quite comfortable actually using it as a very large individual.
