I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen.
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen. The fare is ¥5900 one way and travel time is nearly an hour. I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is 150 meters from the Shin Fuji station. There are lots of car rentals in the area but I was not able to get one as they only accept advance booking from their website. It took me 2 hours getting to and from the foot of Mt. Fuji, by bus and a 15 minute walk in the village to reach my destinations. Roads are quite narrow but they are common in Japan. Like most countryside places in Japan, Fuji is relatively clean, rich in nature, and lots of places to explore. My advice if you want to visit Fuji: 1. Travel by Shinkansen going to and from Fuji. 2. Rent a car so you can visit most of the attractions in and around Mt. Fuji. 3. Spend at leat 3-4 days in the area. 4. Bring cash with you always as most establishments are cash based. 5. Download Papago app on your phone so you can translate Japanese images, signs, etc if you're having difficulty understanding the language. That's it and enjoy your trip to Mt. Fuji.

The host was amazing, he has two dogs. 50 years old traditional house is an experience itself. House is comfortably situated between two stations, one of which is Shinkansen stop. 7-eleven is nearby. I only gave ok rating cause I wasn’t able to see Mount Fuji in the spring. It’s a hit and miss this time of the season, but transportation to one of the lakes was easy. Next time I’ll pick the right season to visit.

The hotel is across the street from Fuji station, so it is extremely easy to access for travelers, and there is a small-wheel bicycle visitors can borrow for free if they want to go further than walking distance. The room I stayed in was larger than I was expecting it to be, and had a nice view of the surrounding city. It probably has a good view of Mount Fuji as well, though I stayed during rainy and cloudy weather, so I cannot confirm it myself.

Though it happened to be a rainy day so roof top foot spa with Mount Fuji view was closed. The Ryokan does give a feel of a family run hotel (less commercial feel). Hotel is in 3 adjoining building and other than main building there were no elevators. Onsen was good. We asked for vegetarian breakfast and were provided with one which was good. We went for a walk in the neighbourhood in night and felt very safe.

You can easily come and go by shinkansen and use the bus, while relaxing in the hotel. Breakfast is included in the price and is super delicious and different every day, with many options. You can take a long walk to the sea (like 30-40 minutes walk), but it’s worth it as you can see so many stars.
