I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen.
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen. The fare is ¥5900 one way and travel time is nearly an hour. I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is 150 meters from the Shin Fuji station. There are lots of car rentals in the area but I was not able to get one as they only accept advance booking from their website. It took me 2 hours getting to and from the foot of Mt. Fuji, by bus and a 15 minute walk in the village to reach my destinations. Roads are quite narrow but they are common in Japan. Like most countryside places in Japan, Fuji is relatively clean, rich in nature, and lots of places to explore. My advice if you want to visit Fuji: 1. Travel by Shinkansen going to and from Fuji. 2. Rent a car so you can visit most of the attractions in and around Mt. Fuji. 3. Spend at leat 3-4 days in the area. 4. Bring cash with you always as most establishments are cash based. 5. Download Papago app on your phone so you can translate Japanese images, signs, etc if you're having difficulty understanding the language. That's it and enjoy your trip to Mt. Fuji.

The host was amazing, he has two dogs. 50 years old traditional house is an experience itself. House is comfortably situated between two stations, one of which is Shinkansen stop. 7-eleven is nearby. Authentic experience of Japanese life different from hectic Tokyo, because not touristy.

I only gave ok rating cause I wasn’t able to see Mount Fuji in the spring. It’s a hit and miss this time of the season, but transportation to one of the lakes was easy. Next time I’ll pick the right season to visit.

Unfortunately it was no climbing season at all when I went there, but it was a nice time in Fuji though! The city has potential as a recreational place. The street car system is good. There are a lot of bars and restaurants and also public baths.
The Fuji Green Hotel is a good pick for people looking to explore around the base of Mount Fuji. The hotel is across the street from Fuji station, so it is extremely easy to access for travelers, and there is a small-wheel bicycle visitors can borrow for free if they want to go further than walking distance. The room I stayed in was larger than I was expecting it to be, and had a nice view of the surrounding city. It probably has a good view of Mount Fuji as well, though I stayed during rainy and cloudy weather, so I cannot confirm it myself.
The buffet breakfast which consisted of both Japanese and western cuisines were delicious. The location was perfect being next to the Shin-Fuji Station which brings you to Tokyo via the Shinkansen in an hour. The hotel also provides a van shuttle to Fuji Station which is about 10 minutes away (Do check the schedules which is listed on a board in front of the hotel). From Fuji Station, one can take the local train to Fujinomiya Station which is 20 minutes away. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the location, comfort and convenience!
We wanted to try a Ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) and we had a good experience. Though it happened to be a rainy day so roof top foot spa with Mount Fuji view was closed. The Ryokan does give a feel of a family run hotel (less commercial feel). Hotel is in 3 adjoining building and other than main building there were no elevators. Onsen was good. We asked for vegetarian breakfast and were provided with one which was good. We went for a walk in the neighbourhood in night and felt very safe.
Probably the best hotel I stayed in so far in Japan
- awesome view (on clear weather)
- staff very nice and helpful
- very clean
- nice breakfast, especially good that it is included
- felt more spacious than usual rooms in Japan
- plenty of restaurants nearby
Good value. $20 per person per night. U can get your own room or in a shared room. The facility is very clean. The location is about a 12 min taxi ride from shin Fuji station which costs about 1200 yen. Great value if you decide to climb the mountain Fuji.
They have a foot bath with a very close Fujisan view on the rooftop (but due to my bad luck I stayed there on very cloudy days).
I have daily access to unlimited free drinks (alcohol, soft drinks, & water), candies, and 1 ice cream/day on the first floor.
Very nice and Cute traditional Hostel/Hotel.
We wanted a traditional house to stay in and we got the full experience. We would definitely come back!
Private onsen/bath/shover has to be reserved, but it’s not a problem and very nice.
Free bike hire for 2 hours with 1000Y per hr for additional time. Free shuttle bus to and from Shin Fuji station. In-house Restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Short walk to restaurants and shopping. Good views of Mt Fuji.
Central location to discover Shizuoka - combined with Mt. Fuji-Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini. Super near train station. Has a breakfast area to chill from 6pm-9pm with free drinks n some liquor. Very friendly staff!!
The roof was incredible. It would be so cool if they did something with it, like add a few chairs or a table so you were able to sit up there and enjoy the view of mt Fuji.
Good location close to the train. Staff were absolutely amazing and lovely. Traditional sort of accommodation with value for money. Views of Mt Fuji from the room
Great location with views of Mt Fuji and plenty of restaurants options nearby. Front desk staff were amazing with one gentleman speaking perfect English.
