The exceptional attention to detail and care from the owner, Elsa. Her passion for people and for what she does is so evident and she goes above and beyond to make her guests have a memorable experience. She also made the best breakfast of our entire trip :)
Situated in the heart of Serra da Estrela mountain range, these unique accommodations were born in the full reconstruction of an ancient water mill and an olive oil mill.

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was pretty wet so we didn't do much walking. Enjoyed a Cheese-tasting evening, visits to the Thermal Baths and quick visits to the 2 wool factories. There's a surprising amount to do and see, we loved it.

A small town in the mountains.
A small town in the mountains. When visiting some places nearby one needs to be cautious about the roads as many mountain roads are pretty narrow even for small cars and one may need to reverse in case of traffic coming from in front. During off-season periods many Restaurants are closed.

If you love long hikings, walks, the mountains you are in the right place. There you can really have great hiking sessions and walks. For the real deal you will need a guide and I highly recommend that you make a whole day Jeep Tour with lunch. This kind of programm is something that you don't want to miss in this area of Serra da Estrela. This is a place that you need to take the correct equipment for walking and hiking, the right shoes etc. It can rain a lot so you need proper waterproof clothing. It can get really cold there, so under waterproof clothing you need functional skin breathing active clothing. For the walks and hikings I do not recommend any clothing around cotton or woole. This location is great for active people and active families who love the nature and the amazing views that you can get there. They have there in Manteigas few restaurants, but keep in mind that it is a small village, so I would not recommend a stay larger than 1 week.

Manteigas is a not a place most tourists seem to hear about and, surprisingly, not a place which many Portuguese from the South of Portugal seem to visit. The variety of things to do in the area are wonderful. Whether you like winter sports of skiing and snow-shoeing to bicycling, fishing, camping, hiking in the Spring, Summer or Fall there are any number of activities year-round.

This place was such a pleasant surprise, despite a couple of white knuckle moments navigating the rather narrow and winding road leading down to the town from the main mountain road. The roads in Manteigas are much narrower than what we’re used to, but it’s relatively easy to get around if you take it slow. Enjoyed some excellent local cheese, charcuterie and wine at Queijaria Manteigas. Don’t miss the tour of the Burel Woolen factory, which is very interesting. Their gift shop has something for everyone.
Amelia was absolutely the most helpful, kindest, friendliest person we have had the pleasure to meet on our trip in Portugal so far! She made us feel very very welcome, ensured that our breakfasts were excellent, and answered all our questions. The B&B is in an old family-owned mansion and has considerable old world charm. It is centrally located in Manteigas with easy access to the town center. Many local restaurants are within walking distance. Breakfast included fresh fruit, bread, cheese and meat, wonderful cake and pastries.
honestly, I loved everything about this place! we absolutely enjoyed the gorgeous view over breakfast and the fireplace in the evening. The hospitality was beyond anything I experienced in typical hotels. it felt like we were taken care by family. Our toddler son was in love with the place and the owners :)
the house is newly built, all wood, so it has a nice mix of being cozy and clean but without too much of the oldy-mouldy mountain village feel. the location is convenient, short drive to the village and sights.
Elsa, the owner, was my guardian angel: She planned a wonderful day trip for me, she reserved places in good restaurants for me, she even made me a packed breakfast when I was leaving early in the morning. she is so friendly and caring. was worth to come to manteigas just for her.
above that, the room was excellent: spacious with a comfortable bed and nice shower. the small town is great for exploring the Sera da Estrela. there’s a gods restaurant right next door
I recently stayed at SerraVale for three nights and was thoroughly impressed. The hotel was impeccably clean, the hospitality was exceptional, and the breakfast was amazing. Located in the heart of Manteigas, it offered convenience and easy access to everything. The owner, Elsa, one of the best hostesses in Portugal, made my stay truly memorable and welcoming. Highly recommend SerraVale for a wonderful experience in Manteigas and in Serra da Estrela.
I recently stayed at Inatel Manteigas and overall, it was a delightful experience. The breakfast offered was good. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable, providing a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring.
One of the highlights of this hotel is its excellent location in Manteigas. It served as an ideal base to explore the surrounding areas, making it convenient for travelers keen on outdoor adventures.
This hotel is the perfect base for three days of walking in the surrounding hills. The view from the room puts you in the right frame of mind then the hearty breakfast sets you up for an active day. Everything was calean and tidy. The tourist information office next to the hotel have a complete catalogue of well illustrated local walks.
Beautiful and modern space, very clean with an excellent view. Walking is easy to shops and restaurants. It was truly a relaxing haven where we felt comfortable. We appreciated how close it was to hiking trails also and it was fun exploring the town of Manteigas. Elsa made check in easy and the morning breakfast was delicious.
The house is situated in a stunning location with beautiful views over the valley and town of Manteigas. The property itself was designed by a Portuguese architect in a very stylish design that combined a Nordic style with Portugal mountain living.
The house is very cozy and the staff is very friendly, I highly recommend this hotel.
Dona Teresa was very friendly and helpful!
It was very kind of her showing the museum inside the house and telling us the family story.
Highly recommended
The location and the views are outstanding. The hotel offers an afternoon tea which is a big bonus. The guided walks they provide are nice to do — we made two different routes on two different days and both were wonderful.
Historical house, very well maintained. Heating was very comfortable. The host is very kind. Breakfast includes regional products as well as hand made ones. A must stay in Manteigas. Will surely return.
newly renovated, clean hotel. Friendly staff, deserves to be more than a 2 star. it’s about 20 minute uphill walk to main town but there is an excellent restaurant and supermarket very close by.
The house is very spacious and cozy. The hosts were super kind and available to provide suggestions and things to do around Manteigas. We enjoyed our stay, everything was perfect!
Perfect location in the heart of Manteigas and a fine base to explore the Zêzere valley and Serra da Estrela. Comfy and practical stay. Warmly recommended.
