At the foot of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one of the country’s top ski resorts. The Bavarian style of its Alpine chalets includes beautiful flowers lining every balcony, and colourful frescoes adorning the outsides of houses.
The varied skiing and snowboarding in the surrounding Alps is based mainly on blue and red runs. To ski on the Zugspitze glacier you take a train up to the mountain then a cable car down to the slopes. The summit itself offers magnificent views of the valleys below, provided you’re lucky enough to get a break in the clouds.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a former host of the Winter Olympics and the World Alpine Ski Championships. It also has a ski jump that forms part of the world cup of that sport. In summer hiking is the most popular activity and a lengthy route leads up to King’s House on Schachen, a supposed castle that looks more like a house.
It was built for Ludwig II, the eccentric king behind the region’s most impressive castle – Neuschwanstein to the north-west of Garmisch. The road between them passes by Oberammergau, famous for its 10-yearly Passion Plays.
Accommodation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Booking.com includes 4-star hotels near the train station, traditional guest houses near Partnach Gorge, and cheap apartments with parking.

A charming town in the heart of the mountains of Bavaria. Great for a 4-5 day trip with kids. The locals are usually very friendly, the nature is breathtaking and you can rent skiing equipment for fair prices.

We spent a week in GAP at the end of the winter season.
We spent a week in GAP at the end of the winter season. The weather was warm, but skiing opportunities were just perfect at the Zugspitze which is over 2500m high. From GAP, the train takes you to Munich in an hour, so you can enjoy a big city atmosphere and related activities once you get bored from skiing. By car, you need an hour to reach the most visited tourist attraction in Germany - Neuschwanstein castle. Overall GAP is a cool location for both summer and winter time.

What a lovely area, I want to move here.
What a lovely area, I want to move here. Such beautiful scenery, mountains for great hikes and lovely people.
It’s also an ok place for skiing, the slopes aren’t super long or the resorts not very fancy but it could be a great place to learn the sport.

Quaint mountain town. Wish I could have stayed longer. Friendly, welcoming. Mostly walkable. I enjoyed a fabulous veal schnitzel at restaurant Kronner. Coffee at outside cafe with view of the mountains. In the past, I have watched ski events here.

Really fantastic place - Partnachklamm is an absolute must!
Really fantastic place - Partnachklamm is an absolute must! Really beautiful walk, so impressive, reasonably priced and not too packed. Bring a small torch or have your phone to hand though for the dark sections!
We ate at Gasthof Herdenfelfer-hof - it was great - lovely atmosphere, good service and great food and beer!
Easy access to Zugspitse too - cable car ride is expensive but overall I’d say worth it for the pretty special views up there! We ran out of time a bit, but make sure you allow a bit of extra time to take the little cable car down to the glacier where there looked to be some great opportunities for tobaganning for the kids!
Oh - and we found many public toilets needed 50c, so maybe have a few coins at the ready, especially if travelling with young children!
Would loved to have stayed here longer and explored the surrounding areas, and Austria, more.

There were so many hiking trails that I wished we had stayed longer to explore them all. The small downtown is very nice with lovely stores and restaurants. We enjoyed the cable car ride and the hike through the galleries. A beautiful place to visit even in the summer and fall.

The location on a main street was great for the excursions we made from this home base in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The sleeping quarters --two bedrooms and a sofa in the large living room--were adequate for our five family members. One and a half baths met our basic needs. Having a kitchen saved us time and money for meals. Having only one staircase to climb was good for all ages in our group. We always managed to find a parking space on the side street. A Norma grocery store was right across the street.
Great location in the midst of Garmisch-Partenkirchen old town. An underground parking lot is around the corner from the Gasthof.
Staff was very friendly and very helpful.
Breakfast was great. Despite Corona regulations, a lot of options and variates were available.
The restaurant at the facility is a fantastic location for an authentic German cuisine dinner experience. The setting was simple and charming and the food portions were generous.
Pets are welcome!
So we are still staying at Atlas Grandhotel. Perfect place to start your early trail-runs. After run you can enjoy your breakfast.
For hikers: Wank Mountain is at your neighborhood; Garmisch Classic (AlpspiX) 10-15 Minutes ride; Zugspitze Seilbahn 20 Minutes.
For dinner you can try local cuisine in the neighbor restaurants.
Friendly hotel with very pleasant co-workers.
Cleanliness: excellent.
Hope to see you soon
This is actually an apart-hotel which wasn’t clear from the description. So no breakfast but you get a kitchen. It was fine by me since I was waking up 7 am to catch 8:17 am train to Zugspitze. The apartment was spacious, well equipped, all utensils provided, good heating, clean.
The location is great, many restaurants and knaipes around. Also, the area is very picturesque.
The hotel has a very good location, very close to the center of the town, to the restaurants, small shops and supermarkets. Beautiful view from the balcony - directly on the Alps. Causy, nice and atmospheric hotel, with very friendly staff. Very clean and hospitable. Many thanks to the personell.
Lovely small hotel, good Finnish sauna, great breakfast, staff members friendly. Very good location for the hiking, skiing, bike rental shops etc. Room had an empty mini bar (barring water) as well which is a nice bonus so you can stick your own Helles there to cool down.
The hotel is perfect for a family with dogs. Friendly starff. The hotel is situated close to the center og Garmisch-Partenkirchen and close to the activities in the mouintains. The rooms had lot’s of space, the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was delicious.
The room was styled in typical Bayern furniture and art. The views over Garmisch-Partenkirchen were amazing. The walk up to the location was wonderful as well. The breakfast was fresh and coffee/eggs were made to order upon request.
Location very convenient to restaurants and activities. The staff was quite accommodating. Even a special evening tour of one of the older rooms at this 500 year old hotel. If I come to GP again I’d stay here.
It's a good price/quality combo, but in a good way - you expect less from a hostel - but in case of mount10 you'll get even more than some hotels can suggest. Brand new place, very friendly and hospitable staff.
everything is new and well taken care off, hotel staff super helpful with all the information provided, breakfast is good, near to Lidl and walkable to zugspitze bahn or base of garmisch for skiing
The location of the hotel is outstanding! Breakfast is perfect with a big choice of dishes! Staff is very polite and helpful! Would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to my friends!
What an incredible incredible experience. A lot more than an hotel. Just unforgettable. The view, the amenities the food (my god. The food !!!!!) The staff, the spa... just amazing really 😍
