At the foot of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one of the country’s top ski resorts. The Bavarian style of its Alpine chalets includes beautiful flowers lining every balcony, and colourful frescoes adorning the outsides of houses.
The varied skiing and snowboarding in the surrounding Alps is based mainly on blue and red runs. To ski on the Zugspitze glacier you take a train up to the mountain then a cable car down to the slopes. The summit itself offers magnificent views of the valleys below, provided you’re lucky enough to get a break in the clouds.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a former host of the Winter Olympics and the World Alpine Ski Championships. It also has a ski jump that forms part of the world cup of that sport. In summer hiking is the most popular activity and a lengthy route leads up to King’s House on Schachen, a supposed castle that looks more like a house.
It was built for Ludwig II, the eccentric king behind the region’s most impressive castle – Neuschwanstein to the north-west of Garmisch. The road between them passes by Oberammergau, famous for its 10-yearly Passion Plays.

We spent a week in GAP at the end of the winter season.
We spent a week in GAP at the end of the winter season. The weather was warm, but skiing opportunities were just perfect at the Zugspitze which is over 2500m high. From GAP, the train takes you to Munich in an hour, so you can enjoy a big city atmosphere and related activities once you get bored from skiing. By car, you need an hour to reach the most visited tourist attraction in Germany - Neuschwanstein castle. Overall GAP is a cool location for both summer and winter time.

What a lovely area, I want to move here.
What a lovely area, I want to move here. Such beautiful scenery, mountains for great hikes and lovely people.
It’s also an ok place for skiing, the slopes aren’t super long or the resorts not very fancy but it could be a great place to learn the sport.

Really fantastic place - Partnachklamm is an absolute must!
Really fantastic place - Partnachklamm is an absolute must! Really beautiful walk, so impressive, reasonably priced and not too packed. Bring a small torch or have your phone to hand though for the dark sections!
We ate at Gasthof Herdenfelfer-hof - it was great - lovely atmosphere, good service and great food and beer!
Easy access to Zugspitse too - cable car ride is expensive but overall I’d say worth it for the pretty special views up there! We ran out of time a bit, but make sure you allow a bit of extra time to take the little cable car down to the glacier where there looked to be some great opportunities for tobaganning for the kids!
Oh - and we found many public toilets needed 50c, so maybe have a few coins at the ready, especially if travelling with young children!
Would loved to have stayed here longer and explored the surrounding areas, and Austria, more.

Hello, I travelled Garmisch-partenkirchen on weekend, it was leisure trip. The room was clean, cosy and we had a nice view from the balcony. It was easy to reach hostel with bus line 1 & 2(Bus stop Skistadion). Due to some maintenance the lock of rooms where not working and hence property offered us good discount on the room rent. They also offered us morning coffee/tea token(2 EUR per person). Host was well mannered. Common kitchen and living room were clean and comfortable.
My second time staying at the hotel and I must say it was even a more memorable experience!
The team of Rita and Andreas provide such a great guest experience plus the location is on the way to the Zugspitze which is place that everyone will go to. The walk into town is refreshing and energizing! A beautiful breakfast in the mornings with ample selections make for a great start to the day!
Only about 5-10 min walk from train station and local buses. The hotel gives a guest card for free bus rides in town. The room was very large. Nice drying rack in bathroom. The breakfast was Exceptionally good. Best coffee we have had in Europe. Super quiet and lovely. Comfortable beds. Easily walkable to great Bavarian restaurants too. Loved this hotel.
Hilleprandt is a lovely little guest house near the foot of the Zugspitzbahn. Christiane is a charming and attentive host, the room was spacious and clean with a beautiful balcony view and full bath, breakfast was a perfect complement, and the price was far less than most chain hotels. I highly recommend staying here when visiting G-P!
We booked the Atlas Sport hotel but it was closed so they transferred us to Atlas Grand Hotel located in the centre of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Super nice staff, comfortable beds, attentive to our needs as we arrived late after getting a lot of rain and still got us late night dinner!
I liked the family style feel if the place. Felt like I was staying in a modern hotel/ski lodge but in a ver Bavarian-style atmosphere. The food was excellent and the staff extremely nice. I may visit again if I return to Garmisch-Partenkirchen before I leave Europe.
• Staff: Very kind, attentive and friendly
• Location: Very near the Garmisch-partenkirchen train station and the Zugspitzbahn station – very easy to go to the ski-lifts
• Breakfast: Nice selection of breakfast options, including made-to-order eggs and pancakes
An amazing place to stay. Room was clean, comfortable, and the view from the balcony was amazing. The breakfast in the morning was great. The woman running the hotel was very nice. She got us anything we needed and helped us schedule a taxi for our departure.
I came down from Munich for a three stay in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to go hiking. The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful, the room was spacious and very, very clean, and they have one of the best restaurants in the city. All around, a fantastic value.
Wonderful hotel.
The hotel is located next to the small lake and surrounded by forest and mountains.
Only few minutes driving from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen center.
The rooms are very big , clean and comfortable.
The breakfeast is very good.
It's a good price/quality combo, but in a good way - you expect less from a hostel - but in case of mount10 you'll get even more than some hotels can suggest. Brand new place, very friendly and hospitable staff.
Excellent modern top floor apartment with a large sunny balcony. Well equipped with all essentials .Well placed for all aspects of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Secure underground car parking space included.
The room was larger than the usual hotel room. The breakfast buffet was exquisite. It even offered fresh-squeezed orange juice! We arrived very late, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
very nice modern hotel, great location near town centre, train station. facilities are excellent - pool, sauna, reception, bar/restaurant. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an amazing location.
