The pool was nice and there was a functioning dry sauna, which was a surprise. There was a nice work-out room. Loved how close it is to Monarch: only a 5 minute drive.

This is one of those experiences when I just wish I could give the lodge an 11/10. From start to finish we felt like we had found the Salida area’s best kept secret.
This gem was a perfect location, easy to access but still quiet. The star of the show was the room, we have never been to a motel where the decorations have clearly been chosen with love and inspiration. On top of that, the rooms were exceptionally clean and the bed was super comfortable. Add onto that the fire pit in the back and the beer at check in and we cannot wait to come back!

Monarch Mountain is an independent resort, not one of the "big boys". Therefore, the amenities were a bit less flashy. Ski lifts are definitely old and slow. However, this was reflected in lift ticket prices being half or less than half of the big resorts. Food prices seemed more reasonable too. It snowed the entire time we were there so the powder on the mountain was great. Not a lot of grooming on the runs, but with the powder, they really didn't need it. While not a large ski area, there was a nice variety of runs that were easy to get to. It is only a mile or two from Monarch Pass so pay attention to the weather. The road (Hwy 50) can close when conditions are bad.

The staff were excellent, the location is special and the room was large and comfortable.
The dining room process was stretched and the choices were very simple; breakfast was limited and, unusually was not free.
We had a car problem but the landline phone was out of service and we were unable to make the right contacts. That certainly wasn't the fault of the hotel but was a limitation for us in such a remote location.

Interior and exterior needs some serious TLC.
Interior and exterior needs some serious TLC. The back of the property is beautiful. Everything inside is old and out dated. Water pressure on room was good & beds were comfortable. This property has so much potential. It could be a gem of a hotel if it was updated even just a little bit.
