Amazing picturesque location! Mineral water was natural and wonderful. Be prepared to sleep on a futon on the floor, but other than that very comfortable. People are very nice anyways in Japan, but the staff here was particularly helpful and accommodating. Free shuttle bus from Jomo-Kogen was a real plus which enabled us to get there from Tokyo via Shinkansen. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Thank you super nice lady at the front desk who greeting me upon arrival and during all my stay which make me feel welcome.
The mountain view of the outdoor onsen, the snow falling down, was incredible.

Great place for skiing.
Great place for skiing.
We tried Houdaigi Ski area and Minakami kogen200 ski resort. Both were excellent.
Houdaigi is just a ski area with a restaurant and gift shops. The ski slopes are good.
Minakami kogen200 is a hotel with attached ski area, which makes it a ski resort I guess.
It's hard to find vegetarian or vegan food in these areas though.

Very old town, many of the restaurants and shops were closed - probably because of COVID-19.
The nature is truly beautiful there, huge mountains, lots of natural water and flowers.
There are also many hiking trails that can be a bit tricky to find but it's definitely worth it to do some research about the area.

Self driving is a proper way to Minakami, especially during driving to the onsen. Both sides of the road, you can view the forest and trees covered with whitish snow and natural stream and dams in it. No need to hurry when you drive and you can take a photograph anytime during the journey.

An onsen town at the base of the Japan Alps.
An onsen town at the base of the Japan Alps. A slow town that's a little run down thanks to overdevelopment during the bubble era. However, it feels like its making a comeback, with a thriving adventure activity scene and community, as well as cheap, good quality accommodation. There's even a craft beer bar and a good quality pizza joint.
Access is very good, with a bullet train station nearby and frequent buses offering access to nearby nature and activities.
Give it a few years and a bit of love and it will be a thriving destination.
We had a lovely view of the mountains. The private onsen was very nice, but the public onsen is very good as well! The staff is very nice and always accomodating. If you like traditional Japanese food, you'll love what they serve during the evening and morning.
I recommend to stay at this ryokan either during fall (momiji) or winter. We were a bit too early for the heavy snowfalls, but still managed to catch some snow the second evening. Even without the snow it was lovely. I can imagine it looks amazing with the fall colors!
I really appreciated the staff friendly and took us take a walk to a shrine. That gave us an activity. The onsens were so good. Especially the dinner was so delicious and a lot to eat including beef, scallops and fish. I really like the food also provided with special sauces with them. I really appreciate the work of chefs. The room was so big and clean, with a window with trees pretty like a photo. They also so nice to offer drive me to my next hotel close by, service is excellent.
This is the best onsen we have been to. Exceptional service and facility. You feel that they care for every detail and do their best to provide an excellent environment such as the in-room amenities, the setting, and nighttime snacks and drinks. The onsen in the room is beautiful, and the public onsen faces the snow mountains and creeks that are so pretty. The kaiseki, the service, and the staff are first-rate. Thank you.
Fantastic location with great views of the mountains, and the onsens are superb. The super hydrogen onsen is no gimmick either, it made me feel so much more relaxed than a regular onsen. Not to mention the onsen has a great view of the mountain as well, making for a very relaxing experience.
Rooms are very comfy and the food was delicious. Easy to arrange the shuttle pickup from the station as well.
Kieren and Nana made this a very special and unique part of our Japan adventure. I would recommend staying at Tenjin for anyone looking the experience the peaceful and wild areas of Minakami. Kieran makes a pretty darn good miso for an Aussie and took wonderful care to help set up a rafting excursion at short notice. We had a great unforgettable time!
The hotel is quite near Minakami station, about 5 minute walk.
The facility meets my expectation. The owner also provides me with Yukata (and a Hanten because it's cold).
The staff can speak English and very friendly.
I try the first shared onsen here, this was quite an interesting experience.
Location. - I was going rafting& canyoning in the morning so it was perfectly placed
Staff were very friendly
You can book private onsen for free. I came in late but was able to get a spot. There is a vending machine for a beer after onsen. Perfect!
Such a charming Ryokan, with friendly attentive staff. The Onsen were wonderful, especially the outdoors Onsen. We also visited the nearby Tanigawa ridge fro hiking, which I can recommend.
It is a very homey and comfortable place to enjoy the beauty of Japanese Ryokan and onsen. This is my second time to be there and I really am looking forward to coming again next time
The provided tanzen (jacket) and yukata were very comfortable and surprisingly warm, even in freezing temperatures. The onsen was very picturesque, and food was delicious.
The staffs were very friendly, thoughtful and helpful. They also provide you small Onigiri for lunch if you choose to stay at the hotel for the entire day. :)
