We have been here a few times now and love it. It is the gateway to Mt Cook - we have done a heli hike, some wonderful walks and tramps, taken in the rivers and lakes, soaked in the hot tubs, eaten at local restaurants, shopped in the local stores, star gazed .... the list goes on.
The locals are super friendly - Twizel is just down the road from Tekapo but is nowhere near as busy or commercial. Accessible from Christchurch or Queenstown - you can fly into one, rent a car and fly out from the other, or just do a round trip. We will be back !!

Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed.
Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed. Since it was Easter Sunday and the finish of Warbirds Airshow, we had difficulty finding somewhere to have dinner and certainly no place for breakfast.

Twizel is a small town but growing, with new housing areas on the edge of town and spreading out from there. It is mainly a holiday town but has a core of permanent residents.
It has a nice wee shopping area, good restaurants and is handy to the other lakes in the area and to a ski field in winter. It also gives easy access to Aoraki Mt Cook and the Waitaki Valley.

Cute town.
Cute town. It has what one needs to enjoy the getaway—groceries, pharmacy, gas, some clothing stores. And, most importantly, nice people who—in spite of the numbers of tourists who are in and out of town—are kind and helpful. Thank you, Twizel!

Nice little place with easy access by car to several lakes and the Hooker Valley walk. Nice river walk with views to Mt Cook.
Twizel has few tourists that we saw and has a very different feel to it than Tekapo, which we didn’t like at all.
We didn’t eat out in Twizel, but we did see a few restaurants, we cooked at the house as had great facilities there.
Good supermarkets.

Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike.
Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike. Try "Twizel" salmon, it is delicious. Twizel town is based on my opinion overrated in overal (visited many other places in NZ). If you want to see Aoraki / Mount Cook two days are enough with Lake Pukaki and Tekapo as well.
We stayed two nights here and there are heavy snow in the first days, Mary gave us a big warm welcome in such cold day. The hotel is just near the small airport and you will have a good view for mountain even it is far away. The room is quite big compared with others, also there is a shared dinning room and you can cook with your own food, many magazines of airplane in the 2nd floor if you love if you are a fan of airplane.
Tony, the host met us immediately we pulled up. He was very friendly and took us around the property to show us all the features. It was a cold night and they already had the electric blankets on to warm the beds up. The house was warm and comfortable. The hosts have looked at what a guest might need during their stay and have provided it. We will definitely book here next time we are in Twizel.
Very comfortable and spacious holiday house. All amenities are there including a big fridge / freezer, big laundry machine (can do a hot laundry) and even a vacuum cleaner. Twizel is not a very interesting town but it is close to many interesting spots including Mt. Cook of course. We had some minor issues with the carbage but the staff reacted very quickly and adequately on that.
The staff were really nice and let us stay in the lounge past close, that was really nice to finish watching a movie.
The cabin was just what we needed. Comfy bed, warm duvet and we got a private parking spot. Facilities are great. Good warm shower and kitchen is well maintained.
Thanks Twizel Holiday Park
The room was clean. We enjoyed using the space and it met our needs. It's a very nice motel. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. This motel was close to restaurants, Mt Cook, and Lake Tekapo. I would definitely come back.
Twizel is a small town and this place is located 50 steps away from the town center which is handy. There were no views from this motel but most likely, there wouldn't be any views from any motel in this town.
Really cute A-frame cabins. They were very clean, comfortable and spacious. A short drive to near sights (40ish mins to Lake Tekapo & Mt Cook). staff were great. Would absolutely stay here again!
After living in hotel rooms it was so nice to have a home to rest in with full facilities & privacy with magnificent views.
the home was very tastefully furnished & a delight to stay in.
A wonderful motel for three or more people having two bedrooms.
Bathroom shower was amazing. Will stay again due to a wonderful motel and friendly people, both staff and fellow guests.
Love the space. Sure it’s a little dated but I had a corner room that had a living area/kitchen separate from bedroom. Close to town and close enough to Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo.
Extremely accommodating and helpful as it was a busy time of year and our other booking fell through with a different hotel, awesome to deal with and good size rooms
Room was very quiet and I had a proper sleep. Room is big and comfortable. Personnel is nice.
Note: you still need to have covid pass when visit this hotel.
