We would definitely go back.
We would definitely go back. Just around an hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, Karuizawa is the perfect place if you want the laid-back, nature-embraced, old-town feel. Just strolling around town is cool enough but they have a lot of museums and galleries too, that the whole family enjoyed! Also got to try skiing for the first time. Overall, this is one place that we will always be included if we go in the Tokyo area again in the future.

A wonderful destination if you like fresh mountain air, lovely tree-lined roads, cycling, etc. Many useful bus routes and also Shinano Railway next to the Shinkansen that goes to Naka-Karuizawa and way beyond. Should spend more days in Karuizawa town. There is a Skiing sport just beside the Prince town outlets and worth for beginner to try and have fun. Walking distance to the old town bring different experiences and its very nice to try walk around and try the foods there. Its worth to go for a relax place. The hot springs aren’t anything special but the mountainous scenery and delicious French/Italian food can be a nice change from the usual Tokyo bustle. When you become a membership (free), you get free drinks(alcohol, water, coke) and snacks. Their onsen was a little smaller than others but it was nice to warm up before breakfast. I recommend the Tombo no Yu as it is modern, beautiful, and has more space and variety (indoor, outdoor, cold, sauna) with a zen-like atmosphere. Overall, it is a clean hotel with great customer service!
