Ski Romania
Romania has more ski areas than most non-Romanians realise, there are approximately 40 Romania ski resorts and as is the case in most Eastern European nations these offer a mix of simple small hills with one or two ancient lifts and more modern, cutting edge developments.
The only really internationally famous resort in the country for the past few decades giving most people the chance to ski Romania was (and still is) Poiana Brasov, which as well as having the distinction of offering the very lowest prices of all 100+ resorts in the 20+ countries in the brochures of the big western European tour operators, had the additional tourist attractions of being close to the castle most associated with the Count Dracula story in Transylvania and the Carpathian mountains.
In the past five years in particular Romania has clearly eyed the success of new resort developments in nearby Bulgaria and sought to emulate this with its own new developments (causing some stress with environmental protection groups like the WWF in the region).
The new ‘Star Trek Voineasa’ resort for example (there doesn’t appear to be any direct connection to the famous sci fi franchise) is one of the biggest new resort in the region with a Leitner built gondola, quad chairlift and all the associated resort equipment.

Romania: latest snow conditions round-up
BULGARIA / ROMANIA REPORT It's been mostly sunny with just some light snow showers on high slopes in Bulgaria and Romania. Temperatures swing between -10C overnight at the top of the mountain to +10C in the resort in the afternoon, so the snow cover is upper mountain and conditions freeze-thaw. Most areas in the region still have 60-70% of their slopes open, although Vitosha (50/70cm / 20/28") is down to 25%.
